The bodywork on mine was mostly ok. I had it machine polished before doing it but there were still a couple of scratches that were a bit too deep. There were really narrow though so the material sits over the top. It is 90 micron which is about the same thickness as a thick letterhead so minor imperfections are easily covered.

Problem areas were the rusty door backs which got treated & painted first to ensure there was a clean smooth surface to adhere there vinyl to.

If anyone wants to remove the vinly at a later date, the car underneath is still in good condition except the bonnet & front bumper. These were both treated to the level as if it was being painted. Stone chips filled & smoothed back etc. with the vinyl on it looks like new but if its ever removed it would need paint

The reason I didn't paint first is that if you are not careful & paint is not baked on, when you peel it off, it strips the paint off with it. I was not willing to pay the extra to get this done as I have no intentions of removing it

    Hope that makes sense
Possibly the only VR4 that was driven by the current owner before being registered..... & it's a UK car

    Ok. That explains a lot.
Well, got few dents from effin parking trolleys, etc, plus few on a roof from falling conkers. No wrapping for me obviously, anyway I was quoted for full refurb and respray at 1750 GBP in Poland so maybe one day will do this way.

    BTW, anyone considered this? PlastiDip?:

Yeah I had looked at that but didn't work out too different for material costs & would have cost me more in labour so opted to the smoother vinyl look. It's a good idea though

I thought about plastidip, and I have a can of it to try on some wheels, but I don't think it would last, the slightest rub on the edge where it is sprayed to will cause it to peal off, so I would not be surprised if in the first week of having it done, someone will come along and give it a good rub, which would cause it to pucker upand destroy the effect on the entire panel.
It would be good to do as a temperary thing for a show or something like that.
But long term I think you would be disappointed.

    Bye for Now!

Good point, I have seen the videos & it does seem to come off quite easily.

Here are the pictures as promised. Sorry about the quality but the weather is pants & I didn't put much effort in

Thought I would go for the Super colour scheme with the black kit & bump strips

I wasn't going to but likes the grill & thought I would do the skirts to match. After doing them I had to really as I think it would look odd with the arches in a different colour to the rest of the kit

Im sure there is a different story while you see car in the flesh, its just on that side picture, looks like fairly big gap between wheel and wing, wheel just looks smaller as they actually are.

Ah right, yeah I see what you mean. I blame it on the photo as they are 245/40/18's & Tein Super Wagons so not much space at all. Will try to get better side picture tomorrow if the weather is better. I know it won't be to everyones taste anyway but I always hated the Indigo blue & know others like it

Still liking that. For me though, I think I would extend the black from the wheel arch extension down the side of the moulded splitter and lower lip part of the front bumper.

?Looking again though, it may be difficult to define a proper line.

There are 2 reasons why I didn't do that

    1. It would have been tricky to get it exactly right with no clear lines to cut to

    2. I ran out of black

I'm never one to shy away from a challenge but was fed up with not having my car. Might order some extra material in the new year & give it a go when the flaps & front lip goes on. Will only have the 1 excuse then
