    In New Zealand it is not compulsary to have a rear fog light!

    It may not be SVA lagal so if you were in an accident it could prove your car was unfit for road use.

    Just because some MOT stations may pass a car I doubt that it is because it is legal but more of a case they don't know if it's legal or not but it has light so that'll do..

    I wouldn't fancy having it turned on because the 'ol bill will probably pull you for distracting other roads users or whatever, even if it was used when you should use a fog light.

    The only thing in The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989 that would make these illegal per se is if they don't have "An Approval Mark" on them. Other than that, as long as they're mounted correctly, there is no specific requirement for them to be anything other than red . There is no statutory requirement regarding the size, wattage or intensity.
