    clutch

    1. what type is it?
    2. what fits ie other mitsi models that may be easier and cheaper to get
    3. how long does it take to do the job?
    4. any advice to make the job easier?

i am looking for the cheapest option to see if it solves everything which is quite possible although it may be the gearbox in which case the car will soon be SORNd

Set aside 8 - 10 hours if you haven't done one before

is that just a clutch or is that the pressure plate included Nick? we dont know what the exact problem is yet but it is definately around the clutch.

is that 8 - 10 hours for someone who hasnt done a VR4 clutch before? the guy doing it is an experienced mechanic but hasnt worked on a VR4 before my car

I think last time we did one on jack stands it took 3 of us about 8 hours? Including lunch and beers. The 3 of us who did it have done a number of them.

On a hoist it will be easier tho

It takes me 8 to 10 hours without a lift or air tools.
If it is sold as a clutch kit then it should include the friction plate and the pressure plate and possibly the release bearing too.

thanks guys. a mechanic with the car on his driveway could take a while then.
it will now be done on a 2 post ramp by Gowf and his engineer mate so more experience and easier access being used. plus they are going to have a look inside the gearbox to be absolutely sure they have the problem solved

If Gowf is on the case then you needn't worry about the issues, just the cost of replacing what is broken.

he can get hold of the parts too and they are going to be used parts so this should finally be solved. i have to be honest, i am pretty much settled on the fact that i am looking for a car now but i really do want to get the GRP bonnet on this car before it goes to its final resting place on my driveway. after the V6 has been shifted of course but i dont need all the interior bits from that if this one is being broken too. there is no point in tidying up the interior just to throw it all away again
