    Ayc

Im kinda new to the VR4 scene but im slowly learning things. I drive a 1998 legnum and was just wondering about ayc as i want everything in top working order .
I just checked what im guessing is the AYC pump, located in a cubby in the right side of the boot? (where the tail light bulbs are) The oil in there was very, very clean and full! Now i was just wondering, does this mean my ayc is allgood? Or are there other components that need to be checked? Could i do it myself? or is a mechanic required?

The AYC works and there are no red lights at all.

If there is anyone in the Hawkes Bay area of NZ that could help, me that would be much appreciated!

Do all your green AYC bars light up at startup, and do they come on when cornering hard?

If so, your AYC is working!

The reservoir in the boot is indeed for the AYC pump. The pump itself is mounted in a harness underneath the rear wing. The AYC pump only pumps the hydraulic actuator circuit though. This actuator circuit actuates the AYC clutches in the rear diff. The AYC clutches have a separate oil supply (fill and drain bolts are on the diff, in addition to the fill and drain bolts for the normal gear part of the rear diff) and the only way of checking it is to get some of the oil out of the diff itself.

The oil is a very transperant yellow colour? and yup all green bars light up on start up and work when conering hard.

Okay so the best thing would be to take it to a mitsi dealer? I dont think i have the knowledge to check thoughs things haha. I wouldnt even know how to access them?

That could be Mitsi SP-III (or their 'AYC fluid') so sounds all right. The hydraulic oil isn't the stuff that gets worked hard anyway - it's the stuff in the diff!

It's not hard to do, but you do need to jack up the rear of the car to access the diff, plus you need a few tools - nothing specialist, just normal tools. The two less common items you'll probably need will be a 24mm socket and a 10mm hex bolt.

You say no red lights at all. The red AYC light should come on when you start the car & then go out.

Ok guys, I've noticed that my AYC light is constantly on! The green bars light up at startup, so what could be the issue here?

    Many thanks in advance

@kamal - if your red AYC light and the 3 green bars appear at start up and then go off, that's a good start. If when you set off the red light comes on, its almost a certainty that the AYC pump cannot hold pressure. This is usually overcome by fitting an adjustable pressure switch which will allow the pump to work at a reduced pressure.
Switches are available from Malc (MPBVR4) on here.

The AYC reservoir takes Mitsubishi SP3 fluid which is red. If it's yellow then it sounds like someone may have put gear oil in there by mistake.

Edit: Just realised I was replying to an old post, but I'll leave this anyway to help others.
