why is a hub/bearing more expensive on a VR4 than an EVO 4 when they are interchangeable if not exactly the same part?

admittedly i have changed my mind about their prices on other things like curved arms. compared to what i paid for one on the V6 they are quite reasonable and likely to get more money from me

I assume it's just manufacturing costs. I'd imagine more evo units get sold, so the production runs are cheaper per unit. I don't know for sure though.

that makes sense Nick but why make 2 different parts that are interchangeable between the 2 cars? surely making the same part for both would reduce costs anyway?

Ah, okay, I get what you are saying now. I hadn't connected that the parts are interchangeable. Maybe there is a slight design difference? Either way, I'd buy the cheaper ones. Actually, no, I'd buy them from the USA and save a bit more.

I'm not convinced that they are the same part. The OE part numbers are different and I believe that the spacing of the mounting bolts are different.

I'm not saying you are wrong, Tim, I can't be certain without having them both in my sweaty palms, but in my original research I discovered that the Timken part number for the Eclipse hubs was 513157. If you google evo and that part number you get compatability with evo 4-6. Maybe there are several types of evo 4 hub?

    Richie,
I know evo 8 front hubs are different to vr4 ones because I bought a pair of evo 8 suspension legs (shocks, hub carriers, hubs, brembo , disks, eveything) I thought I could use the hubs as a spare, but the bolt pattern is was different. Andy (the vee) has them now so you could ask him.
I have a rear evo 8 hub carrier, hub and bearing in boot of my car at the moment and looks to have the same bolt pattern as the VR4 rear hub. It came with the evo 8 diff I bought, along with the sub frame and drive shafts.
You can choose believe me or not the choice is yours.
But as I said in the other thread buy the hub from USA about £100 delivered.

The Camskill one for £89.95 in your third link is potentially just the same as an American imported job. Why bother importing if it is going to cost as much as the one from Camskill?

Dave - I am pretty sure (but check as I am not 100% without checking myself!) that the VR4 front hubs are Evo 4-6 and the VR4 rear hubs are Evo 7-9.

i am not disputing what anyone is saying, i am just confused about what camskill are selling. they have 3 different products listed for a VR4 at different prices but they all appear to be mitsubishi made unless i am reading the information wrong. the garage fitting them have offered a price of £210 each and thats a fitted price which seems to be a good price so i probably will just go with that

No, Richie, the first two are Mitsy items, the third is an aftermarket job. I don't understand the part number differences and price differences on the first two though.

This was my thought nick, if you are going for after market then the ones from the USA are almost half the price of the £90 camskill one, remember you have to add about £8 postage on to everything from camskill.
USA ones are about £100 for a pair of hubs delivered.

Can you still get them that cheap? I thought it was more like £150 delivered now. So if you get stung for tax/duty then no real saving over Camskill. It all comes down to the deal & exchange rate at the time I guess.

found some a few weeks ago on ebay for less than £100 so with duty and vat it would cost about £100-£110

i will see if i can find them.

i posted up the link to them on one of richie's many threads he started recently. when he asked for help with some hubs.

    he you go
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Eclipse-Se...item519aaa7df7

you can but them with the duty pain already.
these are not the ones i linked to but these would do.

    Here is another one
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ONE-PAIR-0...item1c2f964647

don't just search for eclipse, use talon and sebring as well they use the same hubs for the front anyway. just make sure wou have search worldwide in ebay not just ebay uk.
