    engine cover in carbon fibre

What do you guys think about getting a engine cover mould made so that we could get carbon fibre engine covers made at a reasonable price. I normally sell motorcycle panels but I have a factory that can also make car panels. If there was enough interest I would look at getting some made for club members. I don't know what they would cost yet but if the interest is there i will find out for you all.

Peter M did this a while back. There is always buyers wanting them, but few and far between.

Always be interested depending on the price though

Definitely interested as this thread doesn't seem to be up-to-date anymore.

They're not cheap to make. The materials themselves are expensive to buy unless you can get big discounts on the materials.

Exactly. There is also a massive skill level required to get it right and finished properly. Anyone can try to slap some carbon together and make it, but getting it right, finished and everything is key.

I totally agree and that's why I wont do it myself, i have access to a factory and they make loads of other parts. They used to email me all the time asking if i wanted anything produced for motorbikes but I would need to produce a few to really get the price down. For them this would be a fairly simple item to make, and i would purchase a brand new one for them to make the mold from. The finish would be good if I go ahead and do it.

I think there is always interest in items like this, depending on finish quality and price.

Hehe, it's all Dutch guys being interested.
How am I ever going to stand out from the crowd with all these carbon-happy boys in my country?

I would be keen on either a carbon fibre or even a fibreglass engine cover, depending on price... my one got snapped ages back.

I'd love some more info on this as well. I love the look of the red one in the thread Echo Whiskey posted.

Ok its about time i updated you all. I have ordered a new cover and its on its way to me this week. Once it arrived i will get it sent off the the factory to have them make a mould. I cant get any pricing yet as they need to access the complexity of making a mould and it will take a little bit of time to get it all sorted out. Once I have more news from the factory i will update the thread again. Its looking like i may also be able to get evo style carbon bonnets but i am chasing up more info on pricing. I would want to order and fit one before commenting more on them as I want to see the fit and quality first hand. At this stage the pricings looking very good but shipping many times is expensive so it will hang on that a little bit.

As you're in Aus, I'm not sure how this sits but I have just completed a fibreglass mold that I started a couple of weeks ago.
I'm cuttently at the stage of laying the first lot of CF, so I'm just gonna see how it turns out.

Compared to someone in the trade I'm a novice, but as I have no overheads I may be able to produce them cheaper than a panel-making automotive company.

Nothing is set in stone, which is why I kept it quiet from the rest of the club but I *MIGHT* be able to produce a small batch or on demand depending on the outcome of my prototype.

Like I said, it all depends on how quick I can produce them and the outcome of the first one.

I hope this info hasn't upset or angered you or any other members.

Of course, feel free to proceed as my first one won't be ready for a couple of days yet.

Didn't anger me at all, personally i think its awesome when somebody takes the time to produce and make something themselves. Would love to see the finished product for sure. Best of luck with it all.
