Cam belt change - help needed ASAP as messed up with tensioner pulley

OK so half way though changing the cam belt and I have made a boo boo

Wasundoing the tensioner arm to take the tension off the belt (I've been following the how to guide on here) however went up top to get some better leverage on it to undo and ended up getting the wrong bolt!! I've undone the tensioner arm pulley before getting a chance to mark where it was!!

Anyone got any ideas on how to set this correctly there must be a way of doing it from scratch.

I'm fitting a new tensioner as well but the old one if still fitted to the engine at present.

How come this pulley is adjustable? And how do I set it ?

The tensioner pulley is set with a torque wrench, don't remember the specified torque though
However the easiest way to set it up is applying torque to it and at the same time check when the pin in the auto tensioner can be removed easily
When the pin can easily be removed the torque is good, fasten it in that position
After that rotate the engine backwards and forwards (couple of revolutions) and wait for at least 5 mins
If the pin still can be removed easily all is good, otherwise start over again

Hope I understood your problem correctly

    I think I understand.

The whole job has just turned form going well to going completely **** in the matter of 2 minutes as the cam locking tool I made just lipped as well!!! Not having a very good day.

Basically what you are saying then is with everything installed in the correct position. I need to make a tool that going into the two small holes that rotate the centre of that pulley. I need to apply pressure to that center untill it is pushing the hydraulic tensioner back enough that the pin can slide in and out a little (i.e could esilly be removed but dont remove it) Then tighten the locking bolt there.

Go back check it in 5 minutes and if its still good pull the pin.

I guess the main thing is that the hydraulic tensioner doesnt come out loads from its "pinned" position when the pin is pulled.

Pin should be out of tensioner between 3.8-4.5mm
