2200 EDST - Arrive at the Ferienpark, Nürburgring

Tuesday 22 April 2014

0800 EDST - Depart the Ferienpark in convoy
1000 EDST - Get separated and go different ways to get back to Dunkirk!
1400 EDST - Depart Dunkirk on the ferry
1500 BST - Depart Dover to go home

Book your ferry crossings with DFDS, here. I booked on 3/2/14, and the total return cost was £78.40.

ACCOMMODATION

We presently have 3x 3 bedroom villas booked. The approximate cost per room (factoring in expected exchange rate, taxes and accommodation costs) is £270.00. This may alter slightly in due course, but this will be figure I am working with when wanting money off everybody!

I will require a deposit of £50 per room off everybody by 28 February 2014. Bank transfer or PayPal - post up, or PM me for details.

All rooms are doubles. All bedding and towels are included.

We will be fending for ourselves regarding the food, but a trip to the local supermarket upon arrival is the usual, and is a very inexpensive way of feeding ourselves for the duration. We may also indulge in the two-foot pizzas again!

There will probably have been a stop off in Belgium for cheap drinks too...

UPDATE! 30/1/14

I have booked three three-bed houses for five nights, from Thursday 17 April to Tuesday 22 April 2014.

The approximate cost per room will be £270. So a family taking up two rooms will cost about £540.

The usual Dover-Dunkirk ferry is the 1400 sailing (both out on the 17th, and back on the 22nd).

Right campers, I am just putting this out there after a bit of a chat with @aboo and have already come up with a likely date!

Monday 9 June 2014 is a public holiday in Germany, so I suspect it is highly probable that this will be a good weekend to go with a good chance of Touristenfahrten sessions being on from Friday PM through all day Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Of course, this is completely subject to change depending on what dates are published by the Nürburgring.

So the suggested dates are in the region of Thursday 5 June 2014 to Tuesday 10 June 2014 or Thursday 17 April 2014 to Tuesday 22 April 2014 (Easter).

Feel free to register some interest on this thread, and I'll update it as we go!

I suspect we would be looking to book up a house or two (or more!) in the Ferienpark, as that tends to represent the best deal on accommodation.

Not sure on the kids this time for us (it might be in term time), but that wouldn't represent a problem at all if any were brought along.

If you want an idea of costs, this list should be a useful guide. I've compiled it from the last couple of trips where we have taken a vehicle, and it is loosely based on two sharing. Now slightly updated with some costs amended:

Ferry (Dover-Dunkirk) = £80
Accommodation (2 sharing) = £270
Food & drink = £100
Fuel (1000 miles in a VR-4) = £320

Total = £770.

Obviously this is an approximation, but it should give you a ballpark figure. Actual laps of the Ring* will cost you, both in terms of tickets and fuel. Then there's any other incidentals you may require, such as recovery, etc. Put it this way, if we take the kids, I'll be budgeting a minimum of £1,000.

* 2014 Lap prices:

1 lap Nordschleife or 1 Turn of 15 min GP-Circuit: 27,- €
4 laps Nordschleife or 4 Turns of 15 min GP-Circuit: 100,- €
9 laps Nordschleife or 9 Turns of 15 min GP-Circuit: 209,- €
25 laps Nordschleife or 25 Turns of 15 min GP-Circuit: 518,- €

You can see that you can use your tickets for either a lap of the Nordschleife or a 15-min session on the GP circuit.

Easter may be better anyway, the Ferienpark availability for June looks sketchy as it is!! Although this may just be a reflection on how far into the future the dates are at the moment.

At least there would be no issue with school term time.

Yes, I should have mentioned that - there's usually no problem with going as a passenger with someone. I have done that (October 2012) and the whole trip (about 5 days, including the Ring and Spa) cost me about £200. That was sharing with @miller, who spent an extra €2 in earplugs!

@Atik came in with me back in 2009.

If you haven't been before, it's simply worth going just for the aura of the place, whether as a passenger, or in your own car. It also matters not what car you take. As many of you know, I even took the 1.0L Swift around in October 2011!

I don't think so! I assume that wheelchair access is required? If so, I don't recall that the houses were ideal (i.e. no ramp in and out of the doors, bedrooms upstairs, etc.), but they are spacious. As a further guide to pricing though, our five-day stay with the kids (i.e. using two rooms in the house) cost us £370, roughly. Back to the access, they may have a few more properties that are specially adapted for accessibility, but I'm not 100% sure at present.

Olivia's school has a half term round then. 24th May to 2nd June inclusive, school reopens on Tuesday 3rd. Easter holidays are 12 April to 27th.

@aboo, just so you are aware i was approx 5 full tanks of fuel from lossie to the ring (1 way), same on the way back. And used almost 3/4of a tank on 2 laps.
@elnevio iwould maybe adjust your costings slightly, having just got back from there, i paid £84 return on the ferry dover - dunkirk and the accomodation cost us €162 each for 10 people in 2 five berth houses for 8 nights. Obviously dependant on the types and number of you houses you get the price will vairy.
