    AYC red dash light

    Hi all

My AYC dash light has decided to make an appearance, it started about 2 weeks back!

All the correct lights come on when I start the car, but after about 1min of driving the AYC dash light appears. I had the diff fluid changed back in May along with all the other fluids.

I have read up on the pressure switch which can fail on the AYC pump, but are there any other things I can check for, as I know the AYC takes a lot of info from different sensors.

    Many thanks

    Kevin

The other thing to do is a diagnostic code check. There is an article in the library somewhere that tells you how to do it and what the codes mean.

did you also change the ayc pump fluid? it sits in a reservoir in the boot. Its standard ATF and if its knackered it can make the pump malfunction. Otherwise, it may be the pressure switch which can be changed relatively easily.

Can anyone link a "how to" guide for bleeding the ayc hydraulics please, just bought another vr4 and the ayc light was on, checked the fluid in the boot and it was almost off the dip stick so topped it up but the light comes and goes now so I think it's got some air in the system.

No disrespect to you but isn't it a bit cheeky to ask a paid up member to link you to something they have paid for? Anyway the saving on discount on oil alone will more than compensate for the full membership fee and, you will have access to all the "how to " articles.

Seen as I was a fully paid up member from 2007, and have bought another vr4 but am currently out of membership I thought a like minded enthusiast would help me out.

Not that I would get totally unhelpful answers.

    Anyway back on topic

As suggested above to start with, but if you've still got an issue and need a switch give me a shout.

Im not a member either, can I have some help?
Lol, can the AYC pump be stripped and serviced? I'm a Hydraulic Engineer and have access to tools and specialist machinery if needed.
Can u read pressures from pump? Px valve for example?
    Thanx

You used to be able to buy refurbished pumps from the mlr through a guy called "roger rally". I've no idea what he did to them. AFAIK the only pressure monitoring in the system is the pressure switch found at the pump assembly. I'd imagine a person with your ability could monitor whatever he wanted to!

Pretty sure Roger used to replace seals to prevent "leak past". If you've got hydraulics knowledge it should be doable. There would be some grateful members on here if you can crack it.

Required pressure to activate the OE switch are as follows

Switch 1 Black (Pre May 2000)
    Switch closed with no pressure.
Switch opened at 16 Bar on rising pressure
Switch closed at 10.5 Bar on falling pressure.

Switch 2 Green (Post May 2000)
    Switch open with no pressure
Switch closed at 17 Bar on rising pressure
Switch opened at 10.5 Bar on falling pressure.

Actual pressure tests were done by Nutter-John on a car by putting a tee between switch and pump. If you've
got test rigs it should be fairly simple to replicate. If you need any gauges or pressure transmitters let me know

Might have to have a play then, surely a refurbed/rebuilt pump would be better than tricking it with an adjustable switch.
I have access to all manner of guages, rigs, etc. and have a guy where I can get seals, o rings and gaskets made or special ordered.
I will start a thread when I decide to do it
