Just discs and pads. Evo 4 discs and pads fit. In the past many people have gone for grooved discs with hard pads. For a while the pad of choice was the Ferodo DS2500. More recently Carbotech have been more favoured. Combine it with some braided lines and good fluid (I am a fan of ATE Super Blue) and you should get a fair improvement.

    As Nick said.
It would also pay to check the slide pins and make sure they are well greased (with the correct grease too, using the wrong one will stuff them very quickly)

trying to see if i can get brembos that will fit a galant over here if its the same?

we only have the galant with the 2.4l or the 3.0l

    NEVERMIND lol
i was having a brain fart
i just put the stock brake part number from camskill into brembos site and found the interchangeable part number

As you are close to the US, Carbotech Pads are an option for you.

I ran my Galant for ages with the standard vr4 2pot front calipers using standard discs and Mintex 1155 pads and standard rear calipers using standard discs and Ferrodo DS2500 pads.

This set up would out break my Legnum with Brembo four pots fitted. I used this setup on track and found it very effective.

The only issue I had was the pads would chew through the discs and did warp the discs on a couple of occasions.

Carbotech all the way. They are expensive and tend to eat discs and alloys (dust) however for the standard disc and caliper I couldnt recommend better. (When I had a VR on the road /cry )

    Cheers

Carbotechs work. But they do eat discs. My understanding is that better braking on VR4s (on stock calipers) requires harder pads. The harder pads wear the discs faster.

The next question I guess is what do you mean by "better brakes"? Do you mean less effort with your foot? Or the ability to stop hard repeatedly? I've not driven many VR4s that can't stop quickly, but I have driven a few that won't stop quickly over and over again. VR4s do have a relatively unassisted pedal, so to stop hard you do need to press hard. Especially when compared to more modern stuff, which all seems to be over assisted IMO.

Bluestuff NDX with grooved discs. Really loved the feel and best of all, little brake dust!

Fresh discs and pads make a lot of difference to stopping power. I also overhauled my calipers at the same time, but if yours are already in good shape with no sticking pins or anything then I wouldn't bother rebuilding them.

Our cars have what the Eclipse/DSM guys call a 'big brake' upgrade for theirs. As mentioned above, we also share discs and pads with the Evo 4-6 IIRC, possibly even calipers.

Which grease is the "right" grease for the caliper bolts?

I can confirm Carbotech pads are very good with standard discs (braided hoses and blue fluid)

The red lithium grease is generally recommended. Do not use copper grease, it isn't good enough in this application.

I've also used some blue fully synthetic Bendix caliper grease with good results too. About $3 for a packet that will do a set of brakes - so either fronts or rears.

Generally you already have a 'big brake kit'. The car comes with 296mm vented discs front with 2pot calipers. The rears are 280mm and vented too.

The front discs from Outlander should fit (2007 onwards I think). Further you can use uprated brake pads from Eclipse Turbo 2nd Gen. Rears will be difficult IMO, as I do not know which car in the states had a similar brake setup.

For a better pedal feel, stainless braided brake lines are a must. Again, Eclipse 2nd Gen will be the source car.

last but not least you can replace main brake cylinder with an item off an Evo6. It has a bigger diameter and moves more fluid, hence it gives better brake response. The correct master cylinder has stamped 17|16 on the lower part.

Or, if you own an auto with ASC and TCL... you already have the bigger master cylinder.

According to stop tech, it appears that the rear rotors are the same as the 95 eagle talon. part # MB895202
