First Special Edition – COTY model – beginning to middle of 1997
The entire 8th Generation Galant and Legnum range won the Japanese Car Of The Year award for 1996-1997. Mitsubishi created a special edition to celebrate this victory. The COTY VR-4 model was only available in Legnum form, and with only one specification. There was also a 1.8 GDI Galant COTY model released. All were VR-4 Type S’s with the intent of showing off all of the technology available in the range, coming standard with AYC, ASC and TCL. The only interior option was black leather with matching door trims. They were the only VR-4’s ever to come with black leather interior, other models were only available with tan leather. The steering wheel was the standard wood and leather combination that came on the tan leather cars. The exterior colour scheme was limited to Pearl White, paint code W75. Few prefacelift VR-4’s were optioned with this colour code, most came with solid white, this same Pearl colour became the standard white on facelift VR-4’s. The other exterior features unique to the COTY models were two badges on the D pillars with COTY writing on them, and the stock 5 spoke wheels came in a polished finish with dark edging. None were available with the moonroof optional on other VR-4’s, or the MMCS system. These were still tuned to 191kw, 343nm. ( 256 bhp as every pfl auto vr4 was )
I have had the pleasure of owning this car for several years and have really enjoyed doing so, I am now doing around 30k a year and do not have the space to run 2 cars at the moment I will start by only advertising it to VR4 members as id like to know it is going to a good home.
The car was imported 6/08 with 57500 miles on the clock from Ebony and Ivory. Previous VR4 member brought the car 1/11/09, during that time the car was maintained by Gowf and Wobble who had done 13k in 3 years. I purchased the car in 09/11 and have done around 20/25k in 2 years really enjoyed the car
The condition of the car is good (but with a few stone chips and scrapes from living in a city
) and the lovely black ltd edition leather looks great with the pearlecent paint really makes this vr4 stand out. There are many pictures floating around this site of it.
The original COTY polished wheels are corroded and have been kurbed but have Falken ZE914 tyres on that have done roughly 5k. Car was tested for any air leeks (Nutter john), Car had a compression test and leak down test done (Gowf) at eurospec. Had this done as it is slightly smokey for the first couple of minutes when cold. All came back good. Cambelt has been changed on the car with in the last 15k miles and there are no known faults on the car just dont have the space.

Bad bits
Unfortunately living in a city has meant there are several marks on the exterior of the car, I have not tried to hide or fix these and so with a little time and effort most of these could be cleared up. there is a small part of surface rust from the mark on the passenger side at rear. the front bumper had someone reverse into in and has split the plastic slightly, I did look at replacing the bumper and respraying or fixing it but it never caused any problems.
