Hi
Has anyone fitted an engine damper or any other kind of support to lessen movement? I've already got poly mounts but still find a lot of movement especially when quickly letting off the throttle, it's pretty violent

I understand that you can go for nylon instead of polyurethane. Is the risk of vibration worth holding the engine tighter? Some kind of damper might be better but I don't remember anyone else doing that.
It would be interesting to see just how much the engine moves when accelerating and engine braking. I presume you could just remove the bonnet and go for a drive and take look at the engine.
This begs the question is it legal to drive your car on the roads without a bonnet fitted?
Bye for Now!
Don't these have some sort of brace fitted anyway? Mine has a black painted steel or alloy brace connecting the engine to the chassis.
you mean the one that connects the engine to the motor mount... i dont know why they do that and im curious to know if it has any effect ?

Aye that's the one! Have to admit I thought it braced against the chassis but it only braces against the offside engine mount.
I think this what is being refered to in the first post

it looks nice, but it is in reallitytwo bit of rubber in a tube either side of a piston/disc in a tube between two mounting points. so it has push pull damping effect.
I'm using a pair of those on my Anglia as roll stoppers. They seem to do the job and prevent the engine from rolling as it's revved, but I'm not sure what advantage you'd get on a VR4 that's already got decent quality engine mounts - my VR4 engine hardly rolls at all.
Let us know how you get on with this type of roll stopper as it could be used as a aux one for the vr4.
The Volvo lumps have a roll stopper sat on top of the engine with just a normal rubber bush between the brackets.
The problem I have is when you let off the throttle there's a violent shudder it was improved when I swapped to poly mounts but it still there perhaps it's the BOV causing it? It's a forge splitter though so it shouldn't
take the bonnet off and go for a blat then you would see the engine move.
I already know it moves
