    Unhappy auto gearbox

    Hi having very similar problems to Paul Bonner gearbox gone into limp checked atf waiting for my trusted mechanic to get back off holiday . He and you guys will know more than me
    140 km on the clock
    Pre face lift 96 ?( REPORTED ON V5) Legnum
    Always had a slight skip into 3rd since I've owned it
    Basically do I just opt for a replacement auto box instead of dicking around

    First things first, get the fault code(s) and check the fluid level.

    Sorry, now re-read your post. Did you check the level hot, engine running and box in N?

    Checked while in park will try when over a chance any recommendations for atf now amsoil is unavailable or is it just sp3 spec or higher

    Mine didn't go limp mode it lost all drive .when I got my car back it was going into gear but when you go to pull off makes a grinding noise and no go

    www.performanceoilsltd.co.uk still have stocks of Amsoil ATF (Don is the current official importer)

    paul did you diffinitely get it diagnosed as gear box fail, i had the same noise from 2 different issue one was as you describe it, grinding when you engauge D, my noise was in 1,2,3, but when the auto box went into 4, 5 it was silent, so it was the 1,2,3 planet gear set that had failed on mine.
    but i also had the same grinding noise when i put it in D due to a splines of a drive shaft being striped, the inner cup coming out of the gear box would turn round but the drive shaft would not turn the splines on the inner end of the drive shaft had stripped off and where grinding inside the inner cup.

    this is just a thought/question.

    Right checked atf again cheers for the advice nick error code for box is 35 red solenoid had a quick search on the forum's can't find anything any idea's

    It's defantly coming from inside the box .when you select D or reverse it dose it .from previous experiences I would say it's probably the final drive in the box in mine

    Atf was leaking everywhere replaced the filter then drove fine for a couple of miles till limp mode came back going to get a gearbox and swap.do I need to watch out for anything when buying any advice as always is appreciated cheers

    If the gearbox drove fine for a few miles then surely that means that the issue is not mechanical failure?

    Drove it very slowly but the gearbox was just dropping oil every where .swapped over now and back on the road so happy days cheers for all the help thankyou again
