That's actually pretty common for V configuration engines. I know the Toyota uz range of v8s are like this.

Something you probably did not know about VR4 Cylinder heads

I knew this too fto heads are same also I often wonder if they could be fitted backwards so the exhaust ports were on the inside of the v might make single turbo conversion better

on a 4g63 the oil is fed up through a hole located where one of the head bolts passes through ,i never looked at a vr4 setup tbh

balls can be drilled out with flat cross bits to begin then an ordinary bit to finish and replaced with counter sunk screws/bolts fitted correctly
possibly the clubs first manual super

Saw thread title, thought "I wonder if he's discovered they're identical", wasn't disappointed with thread content.

balls in the crank also ,so unless its going to be stripped completely and tanked, its pointless cleaning a little bit and running the risk of causing damage due to dislodged crud

but the heads are fed from where the head bolt passes through as scott said.so if you look where this is it will be obvious where its fed from the block .

I may be wrong. I recall Adam telling me about oil being fed to the heads via one of the head bolt holes, but it's possible he was referring to how it's done on the 4g63.

    Dave,

Hello probably my first proper post and forgive me for my lack of mechanic knowledge I figure it out as I go. I work with Avionics normally on the night shift.....

Is this all just curiosity or are your lifters noisy? Hence the talk about cleaning things out.

I owned a Galant V6 which when I bought it had a few things wrong with it. One of which was noisy lifters.

I decided to put in a heavier weight of oil in which to my mind would increase oil pressure and clear out crud. I believe it was 15W50 Mobil. Ran this for 4500 Miles and everything went silent. Changed that out at same interval with another dose of 15W50 Mobil and then after that went with 15W40 ( as it was cheaper ) for the next 4 years without much noise at all. Only when going out to 5-6000 Miles would I hear the tappet noise return.

Flushing was also carried out each time.

Just a comment really... bit of a newbie you see.

    Kev
