    Should my fan be running?

I think this is a bit of a stupid question...but I'm gunna ask it anyway! My cooling fan runs after a half hour journey, normal. The temperature gauge is in the right place, good. The air con/heater is off, ok. The fan is running as the car is at idle but the fan turns itself off after removing the key from the ignition. Surely if the fan is running at idle after the journey then the engine is too hot and it should continue to run for a few minutes after the key is out of the ignition to cool down , no?

Not really. The fan is running so to keep the engine at the correct temperature; without the fan it would get too hot - but the fan does not come on "because" it's too hot (which is why the gauge is at the correct spot).
Also it's moot as the water pump only pumps when the engine is turning, so it'd only be cooling the water in the radiator - not the engine.

    Aye. Good explanation above.
Also the fan has several speeds so can go to mental mode to reduce temps if needed to control temps. So your car should be at normal temperature when you turn it off.
I try and drive the last mile or so gently to make sure temperature is under control, but I am more worried about oil than water.

Well thank you - I have never heard of heat warping on the go during my VR-4 ownership so thought I would offer some thoughts on it...

    ...and it may be nonsense...

...but if heat warping is a known phenomenon then 'shut up Chris' and listen to the expected techie explanations...
