This is true, they would almost never make any profit if they did.

As much as this sounds great I just can't make that car look good no matter what angle I view it from.

I did a lot of research on stats, costing etc before I got my legnum. I concluded that in estate form, you can't buy,run and insure anything that goes as fast for anywhere near the legnum. Think the saab 93 2.3t was the closest. Then I realized I wanted an auto and that was that. Stagea? My gaffer recently sold an e46 330 touring but with full M3 engine and running gear. That went for £5500. That would paste the legnum on anything other than launch or wet handling.

A little six letter word in the middle of your reply there.
The Stagea is a marmite car. You love it or hate it. And I'm loving mine. But its a completely different car when compared in stock form.
If you can live with the looks, or lack of it, I think its a better car for cruising. Much more comfortable. Easier to work and tune. Other than that, Legnum wins.

But like everyone is saying, for the money there simply isn't anything that can compare to the Legnum VR4.

Well the BMW Touring M3 would be great if it existed as stock. The Stagea would be cool if it looked like the Skyline R34 as standard as well but it doesn't look great as is.

E60? The 535i would have been a better shout, straight six with two turbos. M5 would be even better but that's double the money!

It was 02 plate IMO the best looking 5 series.

Btw I try to be realistic if what I can get and yes rs6, m5 and others are great motors but cmmon guys they are well above a good vr4 price bracket.

Ah the E39. I've done the same as other members and searched pistonheads, ebay, autotrader etc to see if there is anything else out there in the same price bracket as the VR4 and yet to find anything.

I'd love a dirty big V8 super saloon like a C63 AMG but a good one is £25k+ so it's back to the real world for me

Yep, I give up searching for replacement, I would rather spend 2k on vr4 and td04 it, then it will be 15k+ car performance wise.

You already know how much I've spent on my car since I bought it in Feb 2014! Don't want to keep chucking silly money at it so it's brakes along with bigger wheels soon and then just maintenance/repair work. Still have a few upgrades to fit including those hard pipes and the walbro

Yes I know how much you spend but IIRC most of it wasn't necessary to keep it moving lots of what you add are upgrades and a big chunk was lpg conversion which will pay for itself eventually.

I got trigger happy with upgrades and now I'm skint. LPG is the other issue, I've been spoilt by sub £30 fill ups so any potential replacement cars need to have the option of being converted to LPG down the line. For the time being I should just stop looking and be happy with what I have.

Yup, did heaps more research on the AJ26 and AJ27 engines over the last few weeks and converting supercharged ones to gas is for people with deep pockets.

There's not only deep pockets required but a hell of a lot jobs around to make it setup and running right, ie adding fuel return line.

Heh never investigate this subject soo deeply but read stories from ppl who try to convert them, never ending issues so would not touch this with the barge, but is still nice metal just not good for lpg and for this only reason is never on my search list.
Similar with lexus IS, I just love them from any angle, inside and out, they just cant be gassed up so unfortunately is not good for me.

£2k for modified head and valve setup plus fitting on top. By the time you factor in the cost of the lpg kit and the labour it comes to around £5k which buys a lot of petrol. I wonder if anyone has managed to convert the thundering Mercedes M156 engine to LPG yet. That's a car for the future.
