I am going to throw something a bit left field in here...........Saab turbo x......very clever 4wd system able to put 100% drive to the rear with a electric lsd that can vector power side to side at the rear, a 2.8 v6 turbo engine ( holden) that is 280bhp standard and easy as peas to tune , there are 400bhp ones out there, 320 bhp is a simple map and they can be had for 6-8k

if so then yes all above has lpg fitted and seems like its 'normal' engine without DI and other 'eco' gubins
That's the one! Good to hear that it can be converted. Time to get saving. Anyone want to buy a kidney or half a liver?

I owned a 53 plate 9-3 Aero before my current VR4 and the interior seemed a little low rent. Cheap plastic and rattles.

Gonna be hard to move on from the VR4 once it's been sacrificed to the rust god's. Like most on here I'm regularly searching for another with a decent shell but it's more than likely I'll be left with just fond memories and an engine taking up room in my garage.
Only alternatives for me are the Mazda 6 MPS, and as mentioned above the Saab, although the ones I were looking at were the 9-3 Vectors not sure if this is the same car though. But don't think either will compare to the galoon.

It isn't just rust with our cars, well for me anyway. It's also wanting something a bit more modern with more toys and more refined.

Is rust that much of a problem, that you guys have to scrap the car. Surely welding is your friend. Then again I never owned a Mitsubishi that got that bad so no experience of where the rust gathers - Well the rear wheel arches but I did a yearly afternoon on those to keep it in check & my galants were daily drives in all weathers.

I have thought about other cars. Yes the audi V8's sound superb. Anyone ever thought of putting a V8 into the VR4 ( and removing all the drive train as well ) Also the BMW's look ok but everyone round here has got one and they aint cheap! for so much mediocrity + my local Mitsubishi has been really good to me over the years.

I need a Legnum but I do cast an eye at a forester now and again.....

But I do think it is absolute heresy < laughs > that anyone should be discussing other cars apart from Galants & Legnums ( and the EVO for brakes & Diffs ) on here. My self included in this guiltiness.

You mean more complicated, cost an earth to fix and not as reliable since accountants take over projects of new cars and try to cut corners/costs badly so nowadays cars really struggling to pass 150k miles without major repair?

Ha very true best jap car about tho in that price range. My 2.0TD was rotten round the arches but it never cost me a penny in 35k miles until the engine went pop at 220k still for £800 with all the toys, Bose stereo and leather trim I was well happy.

I suppose technically an Evo should be on this list but every time I look at one I think, someone's been hammering this one around haven't they....

Very funny you said that as my current daily/work horse/office and grocery taker is Mazda 6 2.5, I spend in it at least 4hrs a day and love it thanks to 'nowadays toys' as
    -bi-xenons turning while cornering lights
    -rear vehicle monitoring system RVM
    -cruise control
    -auto wipers and lights
    -parking sensors front and back
-BOSE 8 speaker sound system with Bluetooth
-half leather heated seats (great if you have bad back)
    -key less entry ect ect

and great handling, comfy but still firm ride on 18 inch wheels on 40 profile tyres.

    20150723_133707.jpg

And yes when I jump in to vr4 its like journey back in time and a bit disappointment BUT its all not matter when I put my foot down, and tinker with it in the garage.

Nice. Mine was on a 53 plate so not quite so many extras but can't fault them at all (apart from the rust) and yes handling is superb for a big car.

See, you are spoilt as you have a well specced comfortable commute car and then a faster car for evenings and weekends!

Would anyone consider the Volvo V70 D5 twin turbo?
Plenty of power and ridiculous torque figures, plenty big enough, can look good if you really squint or get one with some kind of kit. Fully loaded inside too.

What about the skoda Octavia vrs petrol engine very tunable engine or the superb 4x4 same tunable engine. Well I think this is the case.

    Not sure on price though.
    I believe the
1.8T is more tunable than the 2.0T engine, I believe.

    Bye for Now!

I wouldn't touch any nowadays days diesel, DPF, dual mass fly, injectors which cant cope with pressure and I hate smell of diesel.

What I keep lurking at, and waiting for a little more drop in price is EVO 10 ralliart, now you can pick one for 7k and they not far off evo 10 which is double that price, and Im going to mod it anyway so a bit less bhp than e10 will be compensate.

Are the ralliart hatchbacks not all SST boxes? I looked at switching to one recently and the boxes need some upgrades for bigger power.
