    Transporting large package from Lancaster.

I need to ship a package 1500 X 650 X 870 maybe 50kg from Lancaster. I've never done this before so what is the best way to do it and how do I go about it please.

You might. But my time is money, it's a good nine hour trip of about 450 miles, work it out at minimum wage plus fuel.

    John, try www.shiply.com
You post up what you need moved and where then sit back and wait for couriers to email you with quotes. You are not obligated to use any. I have used this site to move cars on several occasions without issue. You can of course move almost anything.

will it fit in a legnum?

i am coming down from manchester to fareham on the south coast.
so i could do a massive detour via lancaster. but i could only deliver it on friday 11th December.
i could pic it up during the week after work.

    Bye for Now!

That is a fantastic offer Dave, it must be a good hour drive from you. I'm not sure if it would fit in a Legnum, the top is 1680 X 630 so it is probably a bit too long. I'll measure the indside of my Legnum tomorrow, it's parked about 1/2 mile away at the moment.

i can measure the opening in the back of my legnum to see if it will fit as long as 1680 x 630 fits between the rear strut tops so it can be pushed into the car, i should be able to pick itup from lancaster.

    what is the item?

you can PM if you want.

It's a Sjoberg Nordic Plus 1660 work bench. It will be dismantled but the top will be in one piece. If you can let me know when you can pick it up I will inform the vendor. Thanks again.

    Hi Jon,
Is this work bench new and boxed, does it come flat packed? e.g. the draw unit does pack flat or fully built.
if complete flat pack then it should go in the legnum but if the draw unit is built up then it might be a bit tight.
if it is new can you give me the vendors contact details and I will phone them up and find out what the exact box dimensions are and how it is packed.

if it is pre used then and the legs are off but the draw unit is built up it should fit but I am going down to my parents for a long weekend so I will need some space for my stuff.
if you get what I mean.

    hi jon,
i have contacted the guy and have arranged to pick it up on sunday.
the legs are off and the draw unit flat packs as well so all should be good it will fit in the back of the legnum.
he sounds like a really nice guy.
i just need your address and postcode so i can deliver it on the 11th.

oh jon i just had a thought, do you still have those wheels i said i would buy off you.
if so can i pick them up at the same time as dropping your bench off.

    tim,
i will see if i can get hold of barry @BraindG as well.
and see if i can drop you diff off as well.

Me and vicky decided to make a day of it and we were going to the lake district for the day and then on the way back pick up the work bench.

    well that was the plan,

when we got there the M6 J36 A590/A591 was closed (washed away in places) so we got back on the M6 and carried on north and come off at the Keswick exit. the road to keswick is a major road and in places it had rivers running across it and i mean rivers not just a bit of surface water. from this road we could see some very swolen rivers flood vallies, we got to keswick and the two major roads to the town were closed, not flooded the water had subsided but they were covered in thick mud and rock.
we tried to get to ambleside from the north down the A591 and we got to Thirlmere and the road round the lake was flooded but i was not sure how deep it was, the 4x4 infront of me started to drive through it it was getting deeper and deeper, then stopped and turned round and headed back to keswick. I was about to turn round and some kind of ultimate 4x4 based on a jimny massive wheels, winches on the front and back lifted by a good 6 inches, it went straight into the water, no hesitation and the sills of the jimny were under water. so i turned round and headed back to keswick for the afternoon shopping and eating.

once we finished shopping we headed back down the M6 to go and pick up the workbench. tried to phone the guy up and make sure it was still ok to pick up the work bench. but no answer, well no phone to connect to. i now know that all of lancaster was in a power out due to power station flooding. i put the post code in the sat nav and followed it to the middle of no wareso many closed roads due to flooding and falen trees it was like 2 miles forware 1 mile back, but we got to see a lot of cuntryside we had not seen before, then a new housing complex came into view. I drove round it for 15mins or so, trying to find the location with no luck. I found a dog walker and asked him if he knew the address and he pointed me to a old engineering mill building with a mud track down the side of it. So i followed the direction and low and behold two rows of houses and a massive swolen river 15ft away. it looked like and eco hippy comunity i found the house and knocked on the door, everyware was in darkness due to the blackout. and no one was home, only one very yappy little dog. i was gutted, waited around for bit, but it was obvious no one was home. so i walked back to the car and saw people cooking of little camping stoves, others had a big pot of pea and ham soup on the go that was going to be shared round the comunity for thoughs who didn't have there own little gas stoves. As i was passing the pea and ham lady i asked on the off chance if she knew the guy who was selling the work bench and what do you know she did and she had spoken to luke the seller and could point me to the location of the work bench and give me a hand to load it in the car. result!
well as she was locating the work bench in the pitch black engineering mill building, who should come back but luke, he had been out to see his daugther due to the black out and then been out to buy everybody new batteries for there torches. He gave me a hand to load the bench into my car and it fitted perfectly.
So the work bench is in the back of my car ready to be transported down to you john on friday evening, everything worked ok in the end, we had a very nice day and enjoyed the little adventure.
