The property i'm viewing is Cobnar cottage... in Sheffield. obviously
A 17th century 2 bed cottage, part of graves park. If you've never been to gods own county, then this post is irrelevant to you..... but a few cvr4 meets have been held there.... a few minutes from me
Graves park is the largest park in the greenest city in Europe covering 92 hectares.
The property is virtually derelict.... sadly, but is still part of the park.
Sheffield city council have decided it's not !! So...... it's up for auction next week. Plans are drawn to demolish & build flats
I'm going to view with shahid ali...... faheems eldest brother, to try & reverse the decision!
The reason i'm posting this is ........ many year's ago, an elderly gent lived there. He was part of the parks team, & therefore lived there virtually rent free!
He was called Albert/ Alfred.... cant remember
He was forced out against his wishes & rehoused.... somewhere he didn't want to be purely so a 'leader' of the so called council could have it for himself !!
My part in this was....... i rewired it !! I did initially refuse to do it because of the circumstances, but...... i had a job to do
Graves park was donated to Sheffield by alderman JG Graves in 1926...... along with the cottage. Wherever you live, places like this need to be saved
Fingers crossed it can be saved. Seems criminal to demolish something of such significance and replace it with flats!
Needlessly knocking down to rebuild. These new builds will have a shelf life of about 50 years then get demolished and built over again.
Good luck with the plan Stan.
I see this happen a lot in my job. I audit shopping centres so I see quite often how a working site is demolished after only 20-25 years to rebuild at huge cost. Renovation is not usually considered cos everyone wants 'new'.
