How many Legnum VR4s left in UK - Can this be right?

    Hello,

Just found an interesting website that claims to be able to work out how many of each type of car there are left in the UK.

Could it be that there are only 41 left on the road (down from a maximum of 103 in 2009)?

I'd say it's not likely to be that low, quite a few are mislabelled and declared as a V6/24 or even just "Galant"

Have noticed recently there seem to be a lot more breakers coming up for sale. Very few running / Mot'd Legnums available for sale anywhere in UK at the moment from a quick search.

Quite a few are labelled as Mitsubishi Estate, like mine. Even though the correct CC and chassis number are stated.

Been driving about 1k miles a week past year and seen NONE Galant VR4 of Legnum VR4 on the road, just one NA Galant that's it! And when I drive mine I notice more and more neck turning. It is a pretty rare I would say.

The V5 for my Ralliart Legnum VR4 doesnt even show a model, just Mitsubishi and Estate body type. I haven't seen a Galant VR4 on the road in years and never, ever seen a Legnum VR4. They are not quite sleeper estates as the aggressive body styling front and back hints at what it is capable of - although I am itching to get some more power in mine having been marginally out-powered by a Mazda MPS (looked modded) and moreso by a BMW 335d - that simply cannot be allowed to happen. Lol. I'm never in my modded 3000GT when someone wants to play.

It must be a couple of years since I saw another one on the road now - it's a very exclusive club! The DVLA haven't helped with their mis-registration of a lot of them though! I've had one recorded as "Mitsubishi" with no model or any other details, one recorded as Auto when it was a legit manual, and one just as a Galant (which made for cheap insurance!) - that was actually a fudge by Mitsubishi to bring it in inside the 10 year rule. I wonder what the total is that we have on the road as a club? 50 to 100?
Possibly the only former owner of Black Legnum VR4 with Manual shift & Moonroof who now owns a Hamilton Silver Galant.

HowManyLeft is notoriously inaccurate for anything imported or odd.

As has been said above, when registering a car in this country, there are literally no checks on what is acceptable to register it.

At least for mainstream UK registered cars (ie a Ford Focus etc) this registration is done correctly, so the figures do get a little more accurate.

When I first bought mine it was registered as a 2.4 diesel now it's corrected and registered as a vr4 type s still not sure if that is the correct model but it's a bit closer lol

Although not in the UK (Ireland), I have never seen another VR-4 on these shores. Which is good and bad in a way. Good in the fact that they are so rare and they always grab attention and intrest.

Bad in that, its near impossible to get second hand parts here. As it stands, there are only 2 for sale in the classifieds here. One low milage pre-facelift which has been for sale for 6 months now, and another pre-facelift breaker.

The high cost of road tax and insurance coupled with low mpg figures make them not so desirable to own.

But hey, Im happy with mine. Even if it does break my heart ( and wallet ) every 2 weeks.

I know how you feel about 2nd hand parts , according to howmanyleft.com I have the last Mitsubishi Sigma Estate 3.0 v6 with a manual gearbox on a 96 plate . Apparently there is a couple of earlier ones but not estate , not manual , so mostly not compatible ! , even the Mitsubishi main dealers seem to have problems finding it .

I'm just glad the RVR has a number of Evo part similarities - although I'll be cursing if I ever need body panels, etc.!

I wouldn't get too excited counting eggs on the early Evo parts, a few of the major items are already NLA

This list only shows autos not the genuine manual (rather than converted autos)

I know this is a bit of an old post.
but if you have that much of a shortage of parts buy a second car with a known failt like a trashed gearbox, of a broken engine valve, and just keep it for spares. it is the cheapest way by far to get source parts in the second hand market.

    Bye for Now!

i know it is not normally possible to do but if you have the space it is the cheapest way to get hold of second hand parts.

personally i don't have the space to do it but coffeebuzz might have and possibly not thought of doing this.
