    warning light

just coming back from a nice long run in my legnum last night when gearbox warning light came on along with traction control light ! had no option but to continue home, [ 5 miles ]. called in at mitsi dealers, this morning, & they said they probably cannot diagnose 'cause its an import ! any suggestion what it might be ? low on oil or something more serious ? or where I can take it, if it's drivable ? [ sheffield based ]:INSERT INTO post VALUES ( :Cry1:

Surprised that the dealer said they couldn't diagnose imports - all they need to do is plug their diagnosis computer in and it will do the rest

Any how, first thing to check would be the gearbox oil level - is your car manual or auto? Not sure about manuals, but the autobox level needs to be checked with the engine running. Very susceptible to degraded performance if the level dips even slightly.

I think quite a few of the usual contributors to this BBS are away for the weekend so you might not get much response till Monday ....

I really don't know the answer.

But take your car to another Mitsubishi dealer if that is their excuse, as they WILL diagnose and repair any problems to any of their brand of cars whether it be official or import.

I'm sure an import is basically the same as a UK spec car, engine wise, so I'm not sure about the answer I got from the dealer in sheffield. they claim that their diagnostics "might " not work on a import ?? If it didn't, I would still be charged for their labour !!! If it was just the gearbox warning light on, then I would assume a low oil level, but with the traction control light on as well, I was not sure of the problem. the gear change in the auto box also became very sharp. I know most of you are in Northhampton at the mo! " couldn't make it, golf got in the way !!! have I great weekend !!

Are you sure it was the gearbox light and not the engine light? The reason why I ask is that I too had the same problem with my engine light and traction control light. -LegnumVR4- help me out on this one, turned out to be my vac valve connections. I fixed the problem myself by pushing the connections back into place was only a mil or 2 movement, but since then I have travelled more than 2000kms and not one problem. :thumb:

    Cheers, hope this helps,

    hi pescha,
no , it was definatley the gearbox warning light . checked the level & zero !! thank you mr dealer for doing a full service for me !! still do not know y the traction control light came on as well though ? apart from that , the car is superb! used to own a 5 ltr, V12, 7 series BMW. which are wonderfull cars to drive smooth, quiet, & very teutonic. but I must admit, I have never driven a car like the VR4 !!! it is addictive !! I'm boring my friends sensless talking about it!

Did you guys know, Mitsubishi was the first marque in Britain to offer FULL dealer support for all import models ? Any dealer that tells you they cant diagnose your car is probably covering their back so book it in & see what comes up !

Probably about right, if it's one of the major services INSERT INTO post VALUES (36k, 54k, or similar) and they're a major dealer or a Ralliart specialist, but expensive if it's a standard INSERT INTO post VALUES (9k) service or from a run-of-the-mill Mitsubishi agent. Of course, for a dealer that said they couldn't diagnose your problem, maybe they just don't want your business! Btw, the most I've ever paid for a service is £380 INSERT INTO post VALUES (full 54k service, but without the timing belt because it had been done at 27k).
