    225/50-17" v's 225/45-18"

    Hi guys!

Have looked into the resources library for answer but with no luck.

Currently my VR4 is running on 225/50-17" winter tires.

A local female toy shop had a complete set of 225/45-18" for a bargain. I only paid around 200 Eur for 4 Goodyear tires. The models didn't follow.

According to some guides, the 18" wheels are only 0,4% bigger.
I have the rims, but... is 0,4 to big?

the normal size for 225 18" is 40
so they will have a larger diameter than standard tyres so the speedo will read low when driving.
the standard tyre size 205/55/16 or 215/50/16.

so plug the numbers into a tyre size calculator and see if it is ok.

you can chose whatever size tyres you like if you are not bothered if the speedo read correctly, a smaller than standard you will accelerate quicker and larger than standard will give you higher top speed. but you must keep the size of the tyre the same across all 4 tyres. otherwise the 4wd system will be damaged due to the tyres rotating at different speeds.

    Bye for Now!

Biggest concern is the space. My speedometer is actually not that accurate. Can it be adjusted?

My speedo is very accurate on 235/45 17 tyres. I'm not aware of any way to adjust it.

This is the issue that brad c posted about long time ago - by changing wheel/tyre size you get a speedo that is more accurate...

    The current tires are 225/50-17".
    Thinking of going to 225/45-18"

Stick to 17's - less trouble and expense with wheels and tyres...

...and speedo more accurate with 17's and right tyre size...

225/40/18 are fine and should not cause any issues with rubbing, as long as you don't Have any stupid offset on the wheels
