Trying to get engine and gearbox fitted.

Any one know of a fair priced mechanic/garage in Northampton area?
I need the engine, gearbox and transfer box changing. I have all parts. I don't have facility to do it myself. Been let down twice now after agreeing price and date. Getting desperate now as it has been off the road now since January??? I need the power... the Spacestar just isn't doing it for me!!

Can anyone help?

There is Jam Sport. They used to be down the lane off the roundabout by Wickes, Matalan and Halfords way.

They have recently moved I believe the other side of Park Campus.

Other than that I dont know or trust any garages around there. Only had a little exhaust work done there before but they were reasonable on price.

Further to the above if you end up getting it done local please let me know where and how much as I am in a similar position (although my vr4 has been off the road a year now)

For me its just the time and the fact both my car and my donor car are not co located that makes it difficult but I do need to be back in her soon!!

In the same boat! Car on jackstands since March, and I'm running around in the missus's Space Star. I really need to get her sorted or else I will slip a gear soon.

At last, its done. Engine, autobox and transfer box changed.

Chap that did it was questioning my sanity until he tested it!!!!!!

Chap in Hardingstone, only about 3 miles from me. Had to take the car and engine to him. Did a good job. Very conscientious... when I went to collect it had a misfire and he wasn't happy letting it go although it was an 'unknown' engine that he had fitted, so left it for an extra day until he fixed it. £600. He changed the cambelt, waterpump and spark plugs, fitted various new oil seals to the engine, autobox and transferbox. Fitted plenum and coilpacks from old engine. Fitted speed sensors from old gearbox (nearly new). I supplied all parts and fluids.

Now goes like a train and no tappet noise!!

Sounds like a good experience mate. Yeah PM me his details as its been far too long out of the VR-4 and with winter coming up its going to be a very very long time before I can get anything done. Also with the speculated snow on the way I think the VR-4 will be a better candidate than the 350Z to drive over this period.
