    Shock absorber question

I need to replace one of the Fridge's shocks as it is leaking as per an advisory on the MoT.

    My question is this though:

Is it recommended to change the front shocks as a pair?

It seems the common sense approach to me, but I just wonder if it is essential, just recommended, or it doesn't matter?

    Cheers

I would imagine that if one side is knackered then its other one on last legs too and new ones will have different characteristics than old so I would not mix them up, actually I did this once but it was on my miss panda not driven further than half the mile from home and at 30mph tops, always change pairs in my other cars.

Yes its not mandatory to change both for mot by UK standard, but its not mandatory to have same tyres at least on one axle, but would you have odd ones fitted?

Nev, if it's a Tein give them a ring in Milton Keynes and see if they can refubish it. They did one of mine at very reasonable cost and were extreemly helpful.

All originals! I have had a bit of a Google too, and it seems to agree with the thinking that while it's not essential, it is recommended.

Trouble is, I start looking at alternatives, like stiffer/lower shocks and springs from Japan!

Coilovers are not really an option, given that the rear set up is a separate shock and spring affair.

I would recommend as fairly cheap option KYB ultra sr, get KYB catalogue online and pick number for your car and then search on goggle, I won't be surprised if they are shared across many, more common, cars.

They slightly stiffer than oe, and are nice upgrade over standard.

I would deffo always replace them as pairs. I always do, I feel it is a false economy to do only one as the other will be shortly after it.

Many motor factors will only sell them in pairs.

i would do both as well.
adams option is probably a very good one for Keeping cost down, and just doing a shock change.

If I just do the shocks, it will definitely be as a pair. The stock item is a KYB Excel G job anyway. They are listed on Viamoto, but they are not on KYB's online catalogue any more. The fronts are not shared with any other applications, except for variations on the car for different markets, such as the Nimbus and Eagle Summit.

I keep looking at KYB New SR Special shocks all round and coupling them with RSR springs. Approx 2" drop all round. But just the springs are about £500 delivered!
