Help needed. 2000 Legnum Vr4 tacho fault and rear hatch rattle.

Hi there. Looking for advice from VR4 owners. My rev counter was intermittently dying and now it doesn't move at all. Any common reasons for this?

Also. I have had three vr4 legnums and each one has had the same annoying rattle somewhere around the rear hatch. Either plastic scratching on metal or glass or thin metal on the body work. Know anything about this? I see there was a post about it being the rear hatch making noise on the latch so will look into that tomorrow.

Thirdly, has anyone had issues with their aftermarket stereo breaking internally from the harsh ride of the Vr4?

Lastly, any suggestions regarding removing the cat converter as apparently they get clogged up. I don't want more noises and my local shop said they will sort the ECU out afterwards so it knows there is no Cat converter there.

    Cheers, Jared Hodge.

    Hello!

IFS on the front rocker cover is the usual suspect in a dead rev counter.

Try a bit of sponge on the rear load cover.

    Nope?!!?

Decat pipes work fine and the ecu doesn't need to be told anything.

Cheers I will look at the IFS and maybe try out a replacement part of a local VR4 that is being wrecked. I don't have a load cover in place so isn't that. It isn't a plastic on plastic noise anyway.

    Cheers for the help/

Is it worth adjusting the catch for the tailgate?

I wrapped a bit of fibreglass tape around the catch as it was driving me crazy and no rattle anymore. I've seen it on every facelift Legnum I've been in..

Yep, bit of tape works for a while until it wears through it.
But the fibreglass tape will last longer.
You can get some Teflon tube of the correct diameter and slit the tube down the length and loop it over the horizontal bit of the catch.
