    Generalised Rust

Took a look over the car now that I've had time, found lots of surface rust, doors are the usual rusty bottomed pears, but also around the fuel filler neck, in the spare wheel well and around the boot floor where the 2 storage trays should be attached, I say should because they have rusted into little holes.

Strut tops are only showing very early signs of surface rust but I'll treat that.

Anywhere else I should look for nasties??

    Rear arches.
Inner front wings, down from the strut tops maybe 15 to 20cm.

Front Strut tops can be very deceptive.
They rust from the underside to the top.
If you are seeing bubbles of rust from within the bonnet, they have probably already rusted through and need patching with metal.
I have just found this on my car little 20p size bubble areas, give it a good poke with a screw driver and it goes right through to the wheel arch underneath.
Which means the metal skin in the wheel arch has already rusted away. And the turret is being attracted from the under side.
I am going to patch the top then treat the rust and exposed metal from the under side and then patch it from underneath.
Then i will jet wash the full wheel arch and check for other issues.

Yep exactly what been said above, tiny spot of what looks like paint imperfection visible from under bonnet will turn in to massive hole when touched by screwdriver. Very nasty surprises hides here, another sweet spot is where air filter box are bolt to the body.

Looks like it's gonna be a busy summer with the Dinitrol and cavity wax then.

Good news on one hand, the front struts were only suffering from very light surface rust, checked thoroughly then cleaned treated and painted over.

On the other hand, did an oil change and noticed there is a bit of crumbly stuff near the engine mount so that's not quite as good news.

Got underneath and some twassock has undersealed it, neglecting to actually clean it up first so I'm in for a nasty job now.

Spare wheel well all done, treated and repainted. Rear bumper brackets don't look good though.
