The manual is cool for towing though yes?
Yeah but mine / Polas is manual
BDA has not only towed with his auto, but raced also !!! and won !
Well, I'm just saying what the professionals here in New Zealand told us... Ken they reckon the manual is better but still not the strongest! I know a member here who blew his tiptronic up by just driving it, so go figure! My transmission was really sick, took $2,500 to fix it! Plus what about Trow with his manual?
I'm only passing info on, if you don't think it's true thats fine... but thought I'd just share!

I think trows problem was a lack of oil in the gearbox...
Ah well, I don't have a tow bar anyway! lol
If you're going to tow with an auto then you need to get a bigger oil cooler and probably a tranmission cooler. When I was looking into getting one the tow bar was going to be about $300 but all the extra cooling was over $1500. They said that if you're just going to use it now and then, say for short trips to the dump then you can get away without the extra cooling.
mine towed a ton and a bit of trailer tent and kids, dog etc 200mile in 36 degree heat for a weeks holiday last year and not a problem
psbarham, did you buy the towbar?
Not much luck sourcing one so far.
yes mate got it from this lot bolted straight on , it only took about an hour
just had another look at that website and the pct ones are even cheaper
there is one on EBAY
Ok Sunday with a wee hangover but am I missing something "got it from this lot" what lot and what web site
click on "this lot"
Not sure if anyone discovered if there is a difference between tow bars for 4WD and FWD galants. There is definitely a difference to the rear axle! I think the floor of the boot is the same though. Worth checking?
they dont go anywhere near the back axle they drop straight into the ends of the chassis rails behind the bumper . if i find the instructions for mine i will post them up

I was left with the option of ordering a galant estate towbar to try (50% restock fee if incorrect....WTF!!) or try to modify that one or get a bespoke towbar made up at a cost of around £250!!
In the end I opted to just buy a Volvo 760 estate with a towbar at £250. Meant I could fill the back with all manner of crap & not worry about the interior - those electric leather seats are supremely comfortable though- will be a shame to see it go actually. The volvo's at the end of it's MOT & useful life now so need some info on whether I was told a load of 8ollox last year.
A motoring journo I know had a lot of friends with big american RVs, with auto transmissions and used for heavy towing. They had a lot of problems with them, and apparently the big solution is fully-synthetic ATF, because of its stability over a much wider temperature range. A bigger cooler, as already mentioned, would probably not go amiss either.
