Like the title says.... I'm in need of a power steering rack for my 2002 FL Legnum. Mines leaking at both ends.
Putting out the feelers as it's looks hard to get a new one.
Need it by mid August.

I have a couple of pre facelift racks if they can be confirmed as the same. I no longer have asa or caps access
Ask a simple question, never receive an answer these days
Ah cheers Pete! For such a quick response.
Let me do some more research with the dealership tomorrow to see if the same rack was used throughout 1996 to 2002. By the way all.... A new rack from Mitsubishi is £1600!!!! and is a Japan sourced part. Just so that people know.
Also I'll let some of my other enquires come in that are a bit more local than Aberdeen way. but a cheap flight up your way would be a nice little day out.
Cheers again Pete.

MR333147 comes up as the part number for the steering rack across all EC5W and EC5A Legnums and Galants. I even tried a 2WD Legnum (EA5W) and it threw up the same part number. To be sure that something wasn't going wrong, I put in N23W (RVR!) and that gave me a totally different part number for the rack.
So I would say they are the same.
I am in Glasgow this weekend so if anyone else happens to be in a position to get it any closer, I could possibly bring one down!
October 2023 fleet status: 100% operational

Why not become a full member of CVR4 and enjoy the additional benefits membership brings?! Information here.
Nev I will be giving you a call dinner time. And thanks for the info. Assuming the RVR is EVO'esque The main body of the EVO rack is pretty short compared to the Galant Legnum one. Speak later.
Thanks guys so far.
I'm still here!
I only chucked the RVR one in to ensure that ASA wasn't stuck in a loop when I was inputting the part info.
If fit from PFL Legnum, i have one for sale
Price: 60,-GBP incl postage.

Private Messaged you Janis.
Right, I have made a mistake when looking at ASA. MR333147 is just for the rack and pinion part. It looks like MR244166 is the whole rack. But I can't check ASA for the model compatibility as I am 350 miles away from my laptop!
Yes Nev I agreement has been reached.
The MR333147 number is the rack casing and pinion. which is the same number for the Galant and VR4's but weirdly the diagram I have has the piping different, googled photos have vr4 pipes entering rack from top. Galant from bottom or rear. Like I was guessing in my txt to you Nev maybe it's because the transfer box is in the way. Also the flange for bolting the rack to the bulk head or cross member is in a different orientation on the two diagrams. On the VR4 it's vertical. On the Galant casing it's pointing towards the drivers seat. Hey ho!
Anyway I am awaiting a message back from Janis in Latvia Who's photos are exactly the part and Stuart in Gatwick. Or if all else fails I'll have one of Pete Thomson's racks.
Busy times!
Weird, not seen another text after 'Yes I did'!
lol Nev I am rubbish with a mobile phone when I'm in a rush. My fingers and brain just don't work as a team! lol
Thanks all for your replies! I have sourced a steering rack from Janis "Jan4iks" Just need to fit it now.
Thread now asleep.
I take it that no new or refurbished steering racks have ever been sourced? Or a steering rack service kit?
It's something I may look into if something hasn't already been found.
Ok Guys here's where I'm at on this.
I fitted the rack from Jan4iks and that has been fine for a trip down to Corsica and back in August and over here ever since.
In the interests of refurbing my old rack I have sourced a Power Steering rack Kit and a Power Steering Pump Kit from a US company called Transtec I should receive their kits via a UK agent called Sussex Autos later in the month. I think for those wanting to replace the centrifugal cartridge in their pump I would get this as an OEM part as it would be a shame to fit a crappy aftermarket item only to fill your newly overhauled system with lots of metal shavings because it's crap.
I have also found a firm that will pressure test the items before fitting to check they are ok.
Downloaded a number of pump specs from other Mitsubishi models - Space Star, Space Wagon, the 2WD Galants etc etc but they have lower pressure outputs for the Pump. Other models have very different pump housings that simply will not fit to the 6A13TT engine.
So the situation is - awaiting parts later this month
Then have to find some room and time to overhaul the rack and pump
get them tested.
Then I'll send up via a new thread all the part numbers, prices, addresses etc hopefully some photos too.
I reckon this can be done for about £200 including the testing. seal kits are about £20 each allowing for some piping to be remanufactured if required and the testing, maybe a few tools I don't have yet.

Parts have arrived from a firm called Sussex Autos. I now need to wait until I finish doing my Bathroom and kitchen the shed is kitted out for doing that at the moment there is no space to actually do this mucky job. will keep you posted.
Sorry about the years wait - House projects, Failing Alternator, Pothole Wear and new job got in the way of everything!
Refurbishment started. Will create new thread in appropriate area. Probably be a photographic PDF file of the procedural order of events and pointers to any pit falls. Never done anything like this so It'll be a bit slow. Maybe a month or more as I tend to only tinker on a Sunday. It'll hopefully in the end get a certificate at the end from a pressure test over in Bristol. Although not until the country gets back to the old days. There is a Pump to do as well somewhere here... ah there it is.
Good to be back
Kev
I'm also in the same position. When the steering started to get jerky, I tried looking for a refurbisher and found none that could do it for a reasonable cost. I googled Sussex autos and found a place in billingshurst. Is this the same place?
