As per title. Got a new noise from under the bonnet, is it a belt? Sounds like a crackling alternator but seems to come from PS/air con side.

I can't tell. I think I can hear lash adjusters, but beyond that....
We need an excuse for a meet up and then we can all have a proper listen.
If you have the time to do it you can remove both accessory belts and see if it goes away, then replace one after the other. That could help narrow it down a lot.
I had a similar noise it was the bearing in the aircon compressor, ive removed the compressor an put a shorter belt in an its been fine, I haven't pulled the bearing to measure it yet, Mitsubishi said the bearing was £7.55 but could be 3 months so I just thought id source one, hope that helps, I diagnosed it by removing the belts as above, I couldn't pinpoint it without, also the bearing seems to freewheel fine, I also had a noisy belt tensioner\idler wheel
Thanks for the advice, I haven't got round to checking the auxiliary belts and components yet.
What I have discovered is that on a typical work day (35 miles twice a day) the noise is not nearly as obvious. The time I found it was on a much shorter drive, so it is either the alternator which hasn't fully replenished the battery and was toiling, or it is the AC pump, PS pump or a tensioner pulley.
I've pre-emptively bought the belt and tensioner kit, so if it is a noisy tensioner wheel it will go away with that.
On another note I would like to attend a club meet some time, not just for advice on my car's gripes but to see other members' cars and to lend a hand with spanners and hammers. I changed a wheel hub the other week using the write up, that job was a pain but very satisfying when finished.
I imagine that there may be some sort of garage day or rolling road day in the near future. I could do with my fix too!!
