    Question VR4 Turbos

Hi there, new member as of today!!!

Looking at a Ralliart imported 2000 VR4 estate...

Any real problems to look for in the Turbo area? Like are they expensive to replace and how often does serious work need to be done on them.

Running an FTO at the moment do no experience of Turbo cars...

Only just managed to convince the missus I need this car!

Also, had a Galant 2 litre, and the suspension was so soft it "bounced" over speed humps at any speed and grounded. I am hoping this is not a problem with the VR4?

    Hi Stevie

turbos - always expensive if they break - regardless of any car. Not known to give much trouble on the VR4, i think maybe one (possibly two) members have replaced turbos - try the search facility

bouncy galants - cured by eibach springs.
VR4s are a totally different beast, the handling is phenominal.

    hope this helps

    Smile Bouncy Springs...

That is exactly what I wanted to hear!!!

Now the missus has even less reason to argue about it.

Looks like a good chance now of me being in the lovely VR4 by the end of next week!

    Thanks a lot!

I've just changed VR-4s - the old one has 104k miles on the clock with no turbo problems. Just make sure you use the correct oil ...

Very good news. Someone told the missus that all turbos wear out after 60,000 miles or so. I have no experience of Turbos so couldn't really argue it!

Now at least she should be less stressed about that.

I am really glad I joined up today, as you have proved invaluable!

    Thanks again

I had a twin-turbo Subaru Legacy previously. It did over 100k miles without any turbo problems either. I did have the turbos removed at around 85k miles to check for another problem, but the technician said they were in perfect condition. As I said, just make sure you use the correct oil - opinions differ slightly, but you won't go wrong with a fully synthetic 5W40 ...

    Cheers,
    Brian

PJ had problems with his, but only after some serious modifying elsewhere. I don't think turbos are a weakness. (Now watch me fall foul of my own jinx!)

I too have moved from an FTO - although a gigantic beast compared to the FTO, you will find it a totally good move to make!! 4wd and AYC make it a car that sticks to the road very well indeed!!
Moved to this for practical purposes - thats what i said to my missus anyway!!
