Does anyoone have experience with rebuilding the PS Pump? What usually breaks, and what does it involve? New cartridge and new seals? Special tools needed?

I jammed up my power steering pump a few years ago, where it only provided assistance when the engine was over ~3000rpm.
This happened by holding it at full lock under high revs - in my case I was sideways on grass at the side of a runway, but we often see it in the winter when people try to do donuts.
I didn't take photos at the time, but there is a pressure relief valve in there, which moves up and down on a spring. At high engine speeds and full lock, this can sometimes get jammed at the very top.
I took it out, gave it a quick clean with some very fine sandpaper, along with the orifice it slides up/down in, and bolted it all back together, and it's been perfect since.
From what I remember, the pump didn't even need to be removed from the car!
That doesn't sound bad at all. I was doing a bit of powersliding around on snow, (no full throttle-full lock stuff, mind you) and after that i felt like the steering got a bit stiffer.
Then again, it seems normal now, so maby I'm just paranoid, but prepare for the worst I allways say..
