    Dim headlight cluster

Hey all, I have my MOT on Weds so have just done the usual checks. When doing so I noticed that my front passenger side headlight cluster is a hell of a lot dimmer than the drivers side. It appears to be all the bulbs in there, plus the passenger indicator in the front wing.
Any idea on the cause so I can try troubleshooting tonight and mon-tues evenings?
    Thanks in advance all

could be a tired bulb but my first bet will be a corroding contact to the bulb in the socket.

It's likely to be a bad earth as that will be common to all the lights. Try attaching a piece of wire directly from the battery negative to one of the negative terminals on a light and see if you get a brighter light.

Perfect, thanks @TAR. I suspected a bad earth somewhere given the whole light cluster is dim. I never thought about doing that wire to battery negative trick so I'll give that a go as soon as I finish work tonight.

Our cars switch ground for the lights through the stalk on the steering column - so it's the 12v feed to the bulbs which might be affected. Try swapping round the fuses for the two sets of headlights, it might be something as simple as the fuse failing, or corroded up, not passing enough current?

    URGH!

You know Garry, that I was thinking that and still posted the above. Been a while since I've needed to mess with my lights
