    Servicing?

Just been reading Tabba's thread in which he had a rant about the VR4. One comment i picked up on was the servicing costs of a VR4, I have been led to believe they aren't that bad, i.e. £700 for major service and cambelt renewal.

My Scenic will/would cost me that for the same service at a main dealer. And my last minor service was around £200 - £250 without digging out receipts. Can anyone clue me in as to what to expect. Ball park figures are fine

I understand the oil has to be changed every 4.5K, but i'm planning to do that myself when i get one.

Maintenance and Servicing are quite expensive IMO.
So much so that when I got my VR-4 I realised that I didn't have enough money to service/maintain both my car and my Woman... So I had to sell her. The woman that is.

It was the logical choice really... Maintenance wise the VR-4 probably cost more than the woman, but the benefits out weigh that significantly. I can spend as much or as little time as I want with the car and she doesn't complain where the woman required all my time and didn't want to share me with a car. Also, I don't mind having another person service the car, but with the woman... well lets not go there.

So now I am on the lookout for a low maintenance girl who requires regular servicing. Oh, and needs to like it fast... driving in the car that is

Servicing is a little more than you would normally pay, BUT it happens every 4.5k. This effectively more than doubles your servicing costs.

The costs vary depending on which service, the biggy is 45k and comes in at around £700 as quoted. Minors are around £200.

If you are worried, don't buy one!

I was worried they would be more then you have mentioned. But as i said, i pay that for the car i have now, and it only returns 28mpg on Optimax. So i don't think costs are going to be that much more. It's only the oils every 4.5K though isn't it? Which i'm confident in doing myself. All of the VR4's that i've seen are around the 50k mark and so i would expect the cambelt to have been done, if not, i won't buy the car.

    Thanks for the response.

That can be done. At the mo i've got to sell my Scenic. When that's gone i'll either be after the red Newera Legnum or Polabears if he still has it. They seem the best cars around in my price range currently. And as far as i know they both are upto date with servicing.

Do many of you change the oil yourselves?
