Why does the 2.5ltr V6 Galant (6A13) kick out less bhp, 170bhp ish compared to the 2.0ltr V6 FTO (6A12) which is 180bhp.... very very strange!

May be worth looking at putting the cams and air intakes onto the Galant from and FTO almost everything else looks the same.

The cylinders are different bores - would the cams line up?
The easiest way to go from 2 to 2.5 ltr would be to make the cylinders larger and bore them out evenly in which case they should.Originally Posted by Nick Mann
have you got a picture of the fto's inlet manifold
FTO`s torque is 19.5 (kgf*m) at 4000rpm
Galants is 22 at 5100
So the torque is slightly better.
Nah, not really. Think about it - The variant of the 6A12 that you're on about is the DOHC MIVEC one - The SOHC, 24 valve non-mivec 6A12, used in the 7G Galant, and the JDM-Market Legnum 2.0ST only cranks out 140bhp.Originally Posted by zentac
I think the main reason behind the seemingly low power level is that the 180bhp MIVEC isn't very torquey - which is ok in the FTO, but not in the chunky Galant - so the engine is tuned for grunt rather than all-hell-breaking-loose power.
The 6a12 in 7g was non mivec but was dohc.
Oh right! Well, buy the 8G version it was definetly back to SOHC - Just checked my brochureOriginally Posted by The Vee
