Galant Questions...

Hi all
I wonder if anyone could tell me whether the front and rear valances and sideskirts from the Galant Sport would fit my 1997 P 2.5 V6 auto Galant? Also the modern spec rear lamp clusters with the round 'jewel effect' reversing light , would this fit an earlier car and wire up the same? Finally does anyone have an idea of parts prices for these bits? I ve currently got 4 Galant Sport 17" wheels/tyres INSERT INTO post VALUES ( a snip at £500 quid for the 4 WITH tyres!) and a VR4 rear spoiler INSERT INTO post VALUES (£500 inc painting and fitting) waiting to go on the car , just waiting for a slot in my dealers bodyshop to get them fitted. Making the car into a Sport replica is my long term goal , if its not crazy prices im looking at!

Yes, Mitsubishi Certainly know how to charge for accessories, don't they? Anyway, this is what I was told, though bear in mind that my car is a 2000 facelift model INSERT INTO post VALUES (Newer clusters and front bumper, etc) so it may not be accurate for you...

Skirts.... These should be a straight swap. You'll need to remove your front mudflaps to make them fit, and I'm not sure if you'll need to remove the black plastic skirts that are already there. I would suspect so.

Front/Rear bumpers - Well, there's two ways to approach this... you can either keep your current bumper/airdam and buy the addons from the Mitsubishi accessories catalogue to make it look like a sport bumper. I *think* they'll fit a pre-facelift. When I get home tomorrow evening, I'll dig out the accessories brochure and get you some part no's/piccies so you can check.
The other option is to get a complete sport bumper off a wreck or from the dealer, but you need to find one first, and then pay about 3 squillion megapounds for it!

Light clusters. Erm... no Idea, but if you want to post a piccy of your current cluster to show it's fittings and bulb locations, I'll do the same and you can check them against each other.

Right, some part numbers for you, and a few comments. These part numbers are quoted from the Mitsubishi Galant Accessories catalogue, dated 07/02. Unfortunately, there are no pricesINSERT INTO post VALUES (funny that)...

Rear Spoiler INSERT INTO post VALUES (saloon): MZ311796
Rear Spoiler INSERT INTO post VALUES (estate): MZ311647

These are pictured in the catalogue as having brake lights.

Side Airdam Extension: MZ569546
- The Sideskirts. Look just like the sport ones. You may be able to get mudflaps that'll fit over these, as there are two types: Front mudflaps for standard side airdam INSERT INTO post VALUES (MZ311691) and a set for vehicles with large side airdamsINSERT INTO post VALUES (MZ311151).

Front airdam extension: MZ568826
This extends the bottom lip of the front airdam, making it more pronounced, and bolsters the corners of the bumper, a la Galant Sport. However it does not include the two 'fangs' that run vertically from the numberplate area to the bottom lip.

Front Bumper Corners: MZ568836
These are the Corner bolsters only, and fit on top of the original lip.

Rear Skirt INSERT INTO post VALUES (saloon):MZ570756
Rear Skirt INSERT INTO post VALUES (estate):MZ570953
Like the front Airdam extension, this makes the rear valence lip deeper and also bolsters each corner. It can't be fitted if you've got a fixed towbar. You'll also have to ditch the rear mudflaps as well, and there are no larger size mudflaps like there are for the front:INSERT INTO post VALUES (

Cheers for the info , I got my dealer to price all the parts I would need to turn my car into a sport replica , and they wanted £2263 plus paint and fitting for the whole kit INSERT INTO post VALUES (including sundry brackets ect) EG a side skirt unpainted and unfitted is £345 plus VAT! a front spotlamp is £201 plus vat INSERT INTO post VALUES (each)!! Methinks an aftermarket kit could be in order! Thanx for the research anyways!

Another question INSERT INTO post VALUES (sorry!) do the clear front indicators/side repeaters/new spec rear light lenses fit earlier cars? Front inds are £54 plust VAT and sides are £8 each INSERT INTO post VALUES (tho im afraid to ask how much a rear lamp cluster is!) Id just like to make the car 'mine' and make it different to all the other Galants running around INSERT INTO post VALUES (there are quite a few up here , theres even one V6 the same colour as mine) so any suggestions would be welcome , even though ive already made a start with the wheels and spoiler!!

With reference to 'Bishi parts prices; You think you guys got problems, you aint seen NOTHING yet !!

I've recently developed a slight leak from my fuel tank; nothing major, but obviously one of those things u fix QUICK. Now, I'm quite attatched to my baby, so thought rather than any dodgy repair or even dodgier welding I'd just cough up to buy a new tank [I work for a garage, so fitting is pretty much free]

Before I give u the price, I'll just let you know what we're talking about; a 1990 Galant GTi 4WD, bought in January for £1300

For the privelige of a brand-new, genuine tank, Mitsubishi want £1062+VAT - Suffice to say a repair kit is being sorted as we speak !!

£2000 for an AYC pump is a bit of a kick in the bo**ocks too, luckily done under warranty.

You could probably try several other cars that have similer fuel tanks and fit one of those with a slight modification, one from a scrappy may be worth a look too.
Hell I'd link two Jerry cans together and use them!!! probably hold me fuel than VR-4 tanks aswell.

When I had the AYC problem I asked for a basic breakdown on prices just out of interest, and the guy said that he used to work for Snows INSERT INTO post VALUES (BMW dealer) and he said Mitsubishi parts are far more expensive but then he said Mitsubishi don't have as many problems as BMW's... fine but that doesn't make it any cheaper to buy parts!

The price of AYC bits was one of the reasons I didnt buy an Evo5 recently , id be able to buy it and run it by the skin of my teeth , but if anything went wrong id be saving up for years to put it back on the road!

Best thing about having a warranty on these.
My AYC light would come on so I took it to my local dealer who diagnosed a fault, car was booked in.. they had it for a day and I got it back again, cost nothing apart from the fuel.

Yeah warranties are a lifesaver at times! I wonder if you can renew your 12 month warranty every year INSERT INTO post VALUES (assuming its a 'Red Zebra' approved used car , like mine) it may be worth it in the long run on cars like the Evo and VR4!

I have a Red Zebra warranty too, until they start wanting silly money I am gonna keep it up, afraid not to, if I had to pay £2,000 for another pump I'd simply have to sell.
For about £500 a year, and no worries it can't be bad.

The only thing that's a joke is servicing costs and to be able to keep a warranty it has to be kept up with them.

I cant believe in this day and age that Mitsubishi cannot make a high performance engine go for more than 4500 miles without needing servicing , surely it would be possible? VAG engines in the TT and S3 ect can go for up to 2 Yrs or 20000 miles between servicing , so why cant the Ralliart engines be made to do that? Hell I remember when i used to have an old VW Beetle , that needed servicing every 3000 miles , but only because it didnt have a proper oil filter , just a gauze strainer in the oil pan...or are Mitsu just wanting to bleed owners dry with these short service intervals?

You really, really, REALLY wouldnt want your car to go 20,000 miles [that's about two years for 'average' drivers] without getting it checked over would you ?

I currently work for VW Wrexham [Dane, for those of you who care !] and if I bought one of their cars on their 'extended service schedule' the first thing I'd get done would be to return it to a normal 10,000-mile interval !


I reckon maybe 4,500 miles might be a tad short, but I'm sure if they could get them lasting longer they would ! These are performance cars afterall, you have to make some sacrifices.

I had an Octavia vRS Turbo for 2 yrs which never saw the inside of a dealership INSERT INTO post VALUES (except for 2 coil packs and an O2 sensor under warranty , if ur a VW guy you'll know all about those!!) I say if its good enough for spoilt middle aged houswives in TTs , its good enough for any 1.8T engined car! 4500 miles is a joke between services , in this day and age they should be building engines that are 'sealed for life' , ie no maintainance at all! INSERT INTO post VALUES (and I bet they can , but theyd lose too much of OUR money without servicing revenue , thats why they dont make them availible!) I agree that a car should have a safety check each year tho , so maybe its for the best to get it serviced 1 time a year....but not at 4500 mile intervals!
