The engine oil turns black very quickly in these engines and I'm talking about 500miles max! I wouldn't want that **** swishing around my internals for 20 thousand.

You're lucky it isn't a racing engine that needs to be rebuilt after every race.

DMAC; Altho I agree with your general theory of 'maintenance free' 1.8T engines, these VR4s are all [the new ones anyway] 2.5 V6 TTs - and tuned a damn sight harder than any mainstream VAG engine - I doubt 'Bishi intentionally priced themselves out of the 'family car' category with the service intervals :s

At least racing engines have sponsors to fund rebuilds! I take ur point about the VR4 being a specialist car tho , and im sure with a TT set up the oil goes thru hell! Its just a shame that the service costs , plus the insurance premiums , mean that I will never get to sample VR or Evo ownership!

The only thing stopping me at the mo is insurance costs [too young :INSERT INTO post VALUES (] but once I pass the magical 23 next year hopefully I can start planning a rediculous bankloan [to buy one, I mean]

I wouldn't bet on it mate, 25 is the minimum age to get insurance on these. From 99% of insurers anyway.

I was thinking of starting off with a 6G VR4 tho [2.0 Turbo] rather than nearly doubling my output power & having no experience of Turbod cars to boot :s

It'll probably be a pain in the arse to get hold of one, but I'm sure it'd be worth the wait ! not quite as 'sleeper' as the newer ones, but still would suprise alot of people !
