That is $4380 for the unit only, no tuning. There must be a reason for it to be so expensive.

Same reason some clothes are 10x more expensive than others... brand power. There might be a difference in build quality, i know there is in clothes but in the end they both do the same thing.

Do you intend on racing hard out, or do you want a nice daily ride as well? you have to look at the application and formulate a solution to fit, rather than finding a solution and working your problem around that.

Yes, i am a ANALyst lol... wait till tomorrow night, i should be fair drunk then

As Kenny said it is all about brand name etc, personally I like the Microtech units, I am biased I know someone who works with them quite regularly.

its not just brand. the motec is a good unit. self learning and correcting ECU - tune it once and leave it.

i would imagine with the cheaper ecus like a link you would need to re-tune it with mods. at the end of the day you get what you pay for... but you don't need to pay the earth.

some ECU's are for track use only. have inputs for logging brake temperatures for example, or can track when the driver used the brakes, how long for and if he was carrying the optimum speed through a corner... you obviously don't need this level of depth of information for street use.

That makes no sense - of course it happens. Some ECU's will also run/tune themselves to a degree with regards to ambient temperature, baro pressure etc.

Andy is right (ABIM) - it comes down to how its tuned. The LINK and microtech units are very similar in regards to pricing and capabilities, the only reason you pay more for another unit is because it will have features that others dont - boost control, datalogging of more than the engine, etc etc. At sub $2K for either they are great value for money, and easily tuned by a number of workshops in NZ.

If you cant justify thousands on a full ECU, have a look at just an S-AFC. They key with the TT VR4 is getting rid of (well, raising) the fuel cut, and taking a LOT of excess fuel out of the equation. An s-afc will be able to do this, at the expense of screwing your ignition curves a bit - still gets you more power at the end of the day though, and if tuned right is totally safe.

Sorry to take over the thread by the way - Freddy, it'd be good to see your car go down the 1/4!

    97 Legnum,

Sorry havent been watching the threads. When is it? On another thread it said the 3rd of Sept which I can make. Plan would be to dyno the car as is, then again after down pipes are done. Also Brad C I notice your car has flares. I have just fitted some to my car (97) and they dont quite match up to the skirts (flares wider at that point). Can you give me a width measurement of the skirts, (front & rear) where they meet the flare please. I may have to purchase facelift skirt kit.

Thats the thread there, good to hear that you will be there! I'm not quite sure what you mean about the flares, can you explain it again?

Do you mean how wide the side skirts are from the body of the car?

btw, where did you get the arches from? You See is keen on getting some for his car.

Also, are you getting Ohlsens or Pitstop to do the downpipes?

    97 Legnum,

I got them off a wrecked 2000 Legnum about a year ago and finally got around to fitting them. But once fitted, found they dont marry up to the skirts (that run under the doors & rear panel) on the 97 model. Think I have sourced some facelift skirts today.
I saw the flares on trade me, for a galant I think.
You see should grab them as the front will fit and order some rear flares from Mitsi.
Ohlsons will do the down pipes.

The last time I was at Kempy's they had a facelift legnum with side skirts, that is another option for you to consider.

You're going to have a very interesting looking Legnum. Any news on a mold for your front grill?

Sorry its taken so long to reply, i've just moved house and finally got things setup.

I haven't done any mods, but when I brought the car it had the Mines ecu, HKS filter, and I think its an HKS 3" exhaust. Also it has a bigger intercooler, which a mate told me looks like a supra one, not sure about that though. It also has a 6 puck brass clutch. Im not sure about internals, or fuelling, or turbos for that matter.

Thats nice, you've bought yourself a nice car then I'm interested to see what Freddys car will get with his Mines ECU.

I'm also keen to see how much my 206hp figure will be increased with my headers and exhaust.

    97 Legnum,

Have you got headers or are you refering to the downpipes? I understand headers cost a bomb to get fabricated and installed unless someone is manufacturing them.
