    Thumbs up 2014 Dyno tuning meet - 22nd Nov in Nottinghamshire

    Hi all!

    Just like last years highly successful event, we're going to be back at Area 52 Autosport for another VR-4 tuning day

    When

    The event will be on Saturday 22nd November 2014, starting at roughly 9:30 AM (give or take 30 mins) and going on until mid-late afternoon (5ish)

    Where

    This event will be at Area 52 Autosport in Nottinghamshire, the full address is as follows;

    Area 52 Autosport
    Unit 2 Park Court
    Park Lane Business Park
    Kirkby-in-Ashfield
    Nottinghamshire
    NG17 9LE

    When driving towards the venue, be sure to obey the speed limit, Nottinghamshire is a for average speed checks and mobile speed traps, we've had members attending previous events issued with fines by the local BIB. Please don't get caught out, it'll ruin your day.

    When approaching the industrial estate, this (badly drawn by yours truly) map will show you where to go:

    What (is it)

    The main focus of the day will be dyno runs and tuning sessions. Most of the dyno runs will be done in the morning and most of the tuning sessions done in the afternoon. This is subject to change as people's requirements change. Attendance list and timetable can be found here: Dyno day Nov 2014

    As usual, there's bound to be lots of delicious grub on the go, @Davezj is notorious for bringing some spectacular pastry goods, I'll be bringing lots of sugary goods and Krispy Kreme donuts and no doubt A52 themselves will have snacks and drinks available.

    Like last year, this is a perfect time to get little bits and bobs sorted out with your car, there'll be plenty of members willing to lend a hand with something fixed

    Again like last year, anyone want any other events hosted on the day, just shout up

    How (much)

    Dyno shootouts will be £40 for a best-of-3 run, this will include a printout showing you power, torque, air-fuel ratio and boost. This will also include professional detcan (knock) monitoring as well so it's a great way to get a health check for your cars engine

    Tuning session pricing has changed this year as last year we found some cars were misbehaving and needed more time (which ultimately came out of my pocket as I'd quoted prices to people and wanted to keep my word), the new pricing format is now done in blocks of 15 minutes (being rounded up to the nearest block), the pricing of which costing as follows;

    Time Normal rate Paid members
    00:15:00 £80 £70
    00:30:00 £130 £120
    00:45:00 £180 £160
    01:00:00 £240 £210
    01:15:00 £290 £250
    01:30:00 £340 £280
    01:45:00 £390 £320
    02:00:00 £450 £360

    A full breakdown of the pricing can be found on the Dyno day Nov 2014 spreadsheet, along with the schedule. If you're wondering how much time you think you need, 30 minutes was around the sweet spot for a quick power boost, those wanting more complicated tuning (better cruise fuel economy for example) would be looking at around 1 hour. All tuning sessions will include a before-and-after dyno printout too.

    What (can we expect)

    Quick tunes can typically expect roughly 10-15% gains of power and 15-20% gains in torque, more complicated tunes (particularly those with supporting mods ie. fuelling / decat / filters) may see as much as 15-20% gains in power and 30-40% gains in torque. Actual results may differ as every car is different, for example some have been better maintained than others & some have supporting modifications where others do not.

    Please note anyone getting any mapping work done will be required to sign a disclaimer, Area 52 Autosport will also not be responsible for the work being done on the day, they are just leasing their dyno and its operators.

    All customer ECU's are backed up before any work is done, if you're not satisfied your backup will be restored free of charge (subject to travel etc).

    Other services may be available on the day such as workshop space and auto-electrical work, please ask in advance if you require these and keep in mind its expected to be a busy day

    Its also conceivable that N/A "V6 Sport" and INVECS-II Auto-box tuning could be done on the day. Again, please ask in advance.

    Who

    Attendance list and timetable can be found here: Dyno day Nov 2014

    If you wish to be added to the list, reply to this thread stating what service you need, and if tuning is required how much time you need and what modifications you have.

    And there we go. Anyone thinks I've missed something, shout up!

    I will be attending this Jason with the silver Legnum. At the very least I will be having a best of three runs.

    Hopefully a little tune, probably around 30 mins. Although the Tune depends on whether I manage to get the FPR fitted in time along with the EBC etc.

    Modifications:

    2.5"/3" Stainless Twin Exit Exhaust
    Decat
    RPW Downpipes
    Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump
    Sard R2D2 Dump Valve
    HKS Panel Filter
    Larger FMIC
    Intercooler and Rear Turbo Hard Pipe Kit

    Thats all I can think of thats relevant for now.

    Oh and I will be there from 9:30 til finish

    Do you have a gauge on your FPR? Installation and setup is about 30-45 minutes. You've got the correct fuel rail adapter right?

    Regarding the EBC, sure I've mentioned this before but leaving boost control to the ECU would be better as it can dial it back if there's a problem

    The fuel rail adapter I have is this one:

    20141024_220608 (Medium).jpg

    Which I gleaned to be the correct one from all the posts. Hopefully its the right one, most of the links in other threads are no longer available as they relate to ebay auctions etc.

    As for a gauge I need to source a decent one as I bought a SARD FPR which dont come with gauge (unless you buy the knockoff variety lol) Along with this I still need to buy the extra fuel hose/vacuum hoses etc just in case.

    And yes this is very true I had forgotten about you using the ECU to control the boost so this is one thing less for me to do

    Altho I still need to fit the wideband aswell grrr lol

    Ah. I found the fuel rail needs the offset type. Here's a pic;

    Attachment 70291

    You may be able to file down the aluminium flanges to create the holes in the correct place

    Alternatively here's a link to the correct part.

    Presuming your FPR has a spare 1/8th NPT connection (screw-fitment), any compatible nitroglycerin filled fuel pressure gauge should do the trick, such as this one.

    Mind you if you need hose, this kit includes all the bits you need.

    Wideband is a bit more of a challenge. There's information on the forums about this, if you can't find it just drop me a pm

    Dont have the FPR to hand but will check it tomorrow, I believe it does have the spare connection. Aha that gauge is already on my favourites so all good

    Aha happy days never thought of a kit haha.

    I'm in as well.
    Morning dyno run for me. Need to check difference between 2 different air intake settings. That's all.
    Can stay till 4pm and help if anyone needs.

    Tomasz ( @swinks ) do you need more than just the 5 minutes dyno time for the best-of-three run?

    Yyhmm...
    - 1st test and setup run
    - 2nd "power" run on low boost map with "A" type air filter and duct
    - swap air filter and duct to type B
    - 3rd "power" run low boost with "B' filter
    - 4th "power" run on daily basis level boost, B filter
    That's all.
    Swap air filter shouldn't take more than 10 minutes.

    Ahh I see what you're trying to do, trying to dispel the myth that pod / cone filters increase / decrease power from the stock airbox?

    Just so you're aware (sure you are but think I should just reaffirm this), a single dyno run doesn't always give a consistent result, which is why a "best-of-three" is always done.

    I'd recommend a best-of-three with each use-case (4 in total, 12 runs total), or at the very least, best-of-two to ensure the result is somewhat consistent. It depends on how scientific you want to be. Based on your requirements I'm estimating the costs will be as follows;

    Best-of-three (for good comparison results);
    15 minutes rigging + 2 x 5 minute best-of-three shootouts + 10 minute break to change filters + 2 x 5 minute best-of-three shootouts + 5 minutes unrigging = 50 minutes = 77 quid

    Best-of-two (for ballpark comparison results);
    15 minutes rigging + 2 x 3.3 minute best-of-two shootouts + 10 minute break to change filters + 2 x 3.3 minute best-of-two shootouts + 5 minutes unrigging = 43.2 minutes = 67 quid

    Best-of-one (not a fair test);
    15 minutes rigging + 2 x 1.7 minute best-of-one shootouts + 10 minute break to change filters + 2 x 1.7 minute best-of-one shootouts + 5 minutes unrigging = 36.7 minutes = 57 quid

    Hope this helps to make an informed decision.

    First option for me then...
    It's not about the myth, tho
    I run SD converted vehicle, so this question won't matter as such. Simply, I hate "whoosh" sound from cone filter under boost, so trying to find as closest quiet solution. But must agree, that will be also good comparison for future.

    I'll definitely be there for the social aspect, but I won't be having any work done (well, other than maybe getting a full 4 wheel alignment, if they've got all the proper equipment to do it properly?)

    Garry, you can try Nottingham Four Wheel Alignment, both me and miller have used them in the past and they have the correct specs for the VR-4, and even the RVR!

    As for the event, I'd love to attend, but I'll just have to work it out during the week before, once I know what shifts I am working that weekend. If there's space then, I'll consider a dyno run, even if it is the work van!

    Just a plain old dyno run for me please.

    Stock Stagea with only an electronic boost controller, Walbro fuel pump, and a wideband AFR.
    I'll be set up with LPG by then, so I'd be wanting a run and printout on both fuels please.

    I looks like the non-VR4s are on first so if thats the case, I'll take the slot after Swinks, so the dyno can be lengthened to its maximum wheel base to allow for my tank to go on
