    Rear cv joints/axle problem

Has anyone had problems with rear axles/ cv joints?

I have a problem and it loud knocking sound, Sound like it coming from the right hand side, It doesn't do it all the time, Seems to be worst on full lock, turning both left or right at low speed, under 30km. I haven't had it happen at high speed.

At first when it done it, All the AYC lights stop showing on the dash and We thought it must be the diff so we drop and change both diff and AYC oils and then all the AYC lights started to work and was no knocking sound till this afternoon on my way home from work. The diff oil was well in need of fluid change.

We did notice that the rear right cv boot is cut so maybe water has got in and stuff the joint?

Only thing we can think of is the cv joint is what causing the knocking.

Did you do both AYC sides? (ie. fluid that actuates clutches, and the stuff that the clutches themselves sit in).

Like I mentioned before, check those rear arms and linkages. One might have a stuffed joint or bushing.

You normally need a MUT-II or Evoscan to bleed the clutch packs. It's likely that he didn't... I do have the cable and Evoscan to do it, but I'll test first and if it works, I can bring it down to Tauranga with me.

You have to remove the old crappy fluid, and to do that you have to get the AYC to actuate while you crack the bleed nipples. It's actually a real pain in the ass process without the MUT/Evoscan.

I know he said they had bleed nipples, Think he said something might have to go to Mitsubishi to be it done, He doesn't have that kind of gear at home.

Had the car up on the hoist today and having good look under the car,

We found that the bearings that sit inside the diff have play, left side as about more then the right side, So could it be the bearings?

The diff or AYC or both have been replace before, Is gasket sealer around the AYC part.

All the diff mounts look good and couldn't feel any play in them.

What colour was the diff oil when it came out? When my transfer case had dying bearings the oil was pretty much pure silver coloured.

It was a darkish brown and look like it had about AYC fluid mixed in with it.

We going pull both rear axle out and see if they have any type of wear on them

Well it seem to have fix itself, Have been for a good drive with alot of corners and is no more knocking sound, Only make the sound 4-5 times after we change the diff oil

Still going pull the axles out and have look at them and the bearings since got to replace both inner cv boots

Thanks for all your help and advice Daniel

We have found the problem and it wasn't the diff or AYC or anything like that,

It was the right hard side sway bar link, The link has broken it mount and put a hold throw the mount but it is a easy fix.
