What a great looking engine! Fantastic job. Can't wait to read you've fired it up and all is working well!

The engine the FTO should have had anyway! Nice job
awesome job.....

Well i turned the key last night and as expected a few electrical probs showed up. It turned over but didn't fire up. Fault code check shows 'barometric sensor' (i expected this one as ecu is looking for something that has been removed) and 'injection system'. Took the spark plugs out and no fuel has been fired into any of the chambers. Pulled the hose off the filter turned the key .. plenty off fuel was being fed from the pump. My FPR also builds pressure to around 45psi but this drops pretty quickly! Can't see any fuel leak though.
So today i need to make sure the injectors are getting the live feed from the engine control relay then check the grounds are being supplied from the emanage.
The rad fan is on constantly as well but that shouldn't be too hard to fix.
That sounds promising.
If you have the stock ecu in there somewhere, then evoscan can tell you what the injector duty cycle is.

Brrmmmm Tsshhh .. we have lift off!
It was some dodgy wiring that was causing it not to start ... my own fault but now sorted.
It fires up, warms up and ticks over fine now, lumpy and sounds like its bogging down when revved so its probably pumping lots of fuel in. Still got fault code 41 - Injection System .. may well be a stuck injector which is why its bogging down. Need to get my downpipes made and the wideband installed, along with the Emanage logging I'll be able to see whats going off a bit better. Got a coolant leak from a rad hose which is easy enough to fix and the rad fan is still on constantly Need to get some decent constant tension clamps for the rad hoses and t-bolt clamps for the boost hoses, rather than the temporary jubilee clips I have on there at the mo.
Main thing is we have a running engine with no major bangs/rattles and most things seem to work how they should so the wiring is good (my main concern) .. I can now start ironing out all the other issues.
Excellent!!!
great job
mine is running/racing as well now.

Well done
Looks great.
Bye for Now!
Congrats! Love the tablet instrument cluster
Sorry for bumping the thread that hasn't been updated in a while, just a quick question for dazjb.
How far back did you have to 'massage' the firewall to get the turbo to fit?
Great work on the car by the way!
Didnt have to push the bulkhead too far. The pic at the beginning of the thread gives you an idea of how much. Looking at it all finished now I might have got away without pushing it back at all but didnt want to take the chance and realise it needed to once the engine was in.

I finally have an up an running VR4 powered FTO
Since 9am yesterday morning till gone 7pm myself and the old FTO had been in the company of RDT Tuning at Doncaster. Huge thanks to Will (the owner) for the effort he put into the car. His knowledge of fuel injection systems and tuning is staggering ... even with a task at hand like this he always has time to explain how things are working, what he is changing and why. I have learnt quite a lot from the day and also confident I will get any after support .. which I will no doubt need.
After Will worked his magic I drove away with a wee beast of a car that gave out 271bhp at the hubs (approx 310bhp at the fly) and 313 lb/ft torque. Not bad figures but the testing was in the driving ...
1st gear ... forget it
2nd gear ... scary! .. that field looks great, lets make a bee line for it
3rd gear ... still losing traction and getting torque steer when planting the foot but when it grips .. it pulls HARD
4th gear ... happy days
It took me by surprise the amount of torque it now puts out. I dont have an LSD and 2nd gear is so brutal, the torque steer really does want to send you veering straight across the road . An LSD is now top of the list of things to get along with a full wheel alignment.
I still need to sort the idle out as it stalls all the time unless I catch the throttle but that is my setup of the stepper parameters through the standalone and something i need to fix. My car was there today to be tuned only, not to have a full setup of all the ECU sensor settings, that's something I did in advance and saved me a lot of money.
So overall am I pleased ... oh yes, the car seems in a different league from when I had the supercharger setup and the nitrous setup. Its a quick FTO that makes you hold on tight and without the help of LSD is a 'kin big handful!
Will mentioned some people are a bit disappointed when using the Dynapack hub dyno as it tends to gives out lower (but more realistic) readings than the roller type but im happy with what my setup has achieved and even more happy (and very cautious) with how it drives.
Got a thumbs up for the EMU as well. He said for the price it is a very good ECU, it has its limitations but does the job well.
Should I want further power the exhaust would be next as the downpipes are standard sized bore and the rest of the exhaust is 2.5". For now though it has plenty and i need to concentrate on getting it to stick to the road before I even contemplate going further.
